Hood Louvers

Does anyone have any pictures of a 427 car with hood louvers? I know several comp cars had these louvers cut to get rid of some of the heat. Looking for approximate placement and length.

here's a 289 compcar with them http://www.clubcobra.com/classifieds...e=SDC12366.JPG

Thank you Bruce. I was curious if the louver was actaully cut in the hood or if it was placed under a hole cut in the hood.

the louvers are molded into the hood, the vents aren't cut out in the one in the picture

I see that. I'm looking for an original aluminum car that had louvers cut. Several of the comp cars had louvers and I'm kind of looking for the louver set up. Ordering a louver press and looking for which dies to order with the press to cut louvers so I need a picture for length of louver, placement, etc. I've seen several in photos...just can't lay my hands on them.

Thanks

Louvers on 427 is not a concern for originality. If you want louvers, just whack 'em anywhere you want.

There is no "standard"...plus, I am not aware of "several Comps" that even had them.

CSX3006 whacked two rectangular holes in the hood, but beyond that...

CSX2002 is sitting in a museum in Boulder, CO. You can sort of see the louvers stamped into the hood. They're in the back, near the handles. They are stamped in, just like the hot rods of the time. And they're much smaller than the car shown above, on the rotissorie.

I have them in my ERA hood

RedEsprit Red I had them added to my hood. They are fiberglass inlays of the KR500 louvers from Shelby they fit on either side of the hood scoop and drop the under hood temps by 15F when running. You will get a little warm air feel going over the windshield. Anyway you can remove heat from tne motor compartment IMO is a plus. I wish I could get picture of the hood to send you. The KR's are easy to bond into the hood. I got mine from A&A fiberglass in PA.

just watching the gumball rally, the cobra had louvers and i remembered this thread. i was thinking of putting these in mine but if they only drop the temp 15 degrees don't know if it is worth it.

anyone else had any experiences.

I think CSX 2196 (the flip top) had louvers.

Not only do they lower temps while running - I never have to use my fans unless I'm idling - they also drastically speed cooling of the engine compartment when you shut down. The hot air vents out muy rapido instead of baking your underhood components, electronics, hoses, etc. Supposedly, by venting underhood pressure, they have the additional benefit of reducing front end lift at very high speeds, just in case you take your car out on the track.

Anyone know where I can purchase these KR500 louvers?

Found this, may help out!

"Here are some images of bodywork done and paint, notice the crafted Air fins / louvers on the hood. Herman's nickname: 289FIA-Cobra in the FFCobra forum."

Also this they say they may have or may make custom order. Maybe they would be interested in the cobra market.
