shaved the front turn signal bosses on FFR....Did I oops?

I installed the liights and Turn signals tonight and think I might have oopsed!

Background info: I am trying to replicate a 66 SC as best I can

1st, I drilled the 2 holes in the body for the mounting screws on the back of the Turn signals where I did so that I could control (shim) the down and out angle the TS has in refrence to the headlight. Only problem is that I did not see that I cannot adjust the lense cover (rotate it) to make the 4 fins in the lense itself go in a North/South - East/West direction until AFTER I put the lenses in. I am pretty much stuck with the diagional look unless I pull and redrill, which I could do.

SO MY 1st QUESTION IS:
What was the origional orientation for the early 65/66 cars? The origional I have to reference here locally is a '67 street and it has the later/different lenses.

2nd, The turn signals I received with my kit are a pretty cheap press on covers ( I also have a set of clear lenses) and as you can see it leaves a real UGLY unfinshed gap.

MY 2nd QUESTION IS:
What can I do about this? Should I just order different aftermarker lights?

you'll see that several cars have diagonal orientations of the lenses and that same gasket gap you are referring to. However, given that you are bent on being original, the vertical face of the mounting area is not 90* to the ground as is suggested by your side view. The area where the lamps mount is slanted to the rear at the bottom, like this:

The incorrect body details like this are far more noticeable than the lamp orientation.

Thanks for that picture! It helps a TON in regard to the slant. However, I don't think I have enough glass in the FFR body to put that drastic of a slant into the body....

UGH, I tought I was pretty close.

Good to hear about the diagional lense and gap orientation. That saves me a little work.

Do you have any pictures or specifil links I can see better what the gaps look like?

The turn signal also points out as compared to the headlight. From your photo's, I don't think you did too bad a job!

Hey Dan that looks great carry on.

It seemed strange to me at first but the TS definately point down and outward on CSX and accurate replicas.
Kind of like Marty Feldman's eyes or what my friend calls "grandma's titties".

Dan, tell me more about your headlights. Are those repro's with modern bulbs or just exactly what are those?

They are repos of the old lucas tri-pole (tri-bar) and they have halogen inserts. I got them from cobrarestorers I think. $150 for the pair with bulbs. You use your existing (in my case FFR) hardware and buckets.
