289 FIA sidepipe cutout?
I noticed that several fiberglass FIA's have a cut out
like this one. http://www.clubcobra.com/classifieds...64Cobra013.JPG Was this something that was ever done on an original? Hersh:) |
Interesting configuration for a "FIA" car. Wrong roll bar, filler in wrong location and the exhaust pipes should be under the rocker panel not along side ala the 427. It does seem to have the cutback doors. I wonder what kit this was created from.

Bob,
This is an old classified on Club Cobra. Here is the link. http://www.clubcobra.com/classifieds...ate/1164778912 It says it was done by JPL Motorsports. I thought they just did Porsche stuff. Hersh:) |
Interesting. I looked up NAF, doesn't look like this. What about the Rumored FFR FIA car that was floating around years ago? I couldn't find a pic of that body.
|
NO! It's someones interpretation.
|
I don't remember seeing cutouts in an FIA or 289 body. Might just be a case of Envy

289 FIA Replicas
It appears to me that a lot of people add the small nose to a 427 type replica and call it an FIA car.
|
The FIA cars had the cutout doors.
heres a couple of reliable copies ;) http://www.seriouswheels.com/2000-20...d-Aluminum.htm http://www.hawkcars.co.uk/parts/cobr...braalloys.html |
Looks like a 427 converted to FIAish styling. ?
|
No FIA cars had cut-outs in the fenders for exhaust - the exhaust ran under the car.
I would agree that a number of manufacturers over the years have slapped a small 289 nose opening on their 427 body style and called it a "289 FIA". Have to respectfully disagree with my friend *13* - I believe that the car shown in the first post IS an NAF 289. |
So the Jeff's agree....:D
|
Did NAF have revisions of the car as it went along? I had a couple side by side pictures of NAF's & though it did look similar they were very different in ways.
