Wire tire/clamp questions

Back before nylon wire ties were invented, how would various wiring and cables be attached to the frame? 4158 has a ridiculous amount of wire ties everywhere - wiring, emergency brake cables, fuel hoses, etc, and Id like to clean that up with something period looking.

Also, most of the wire loom clamps are the modern zinc plated steel with black rubber insulation. Is there an earlier version of these?

Thanks!

1960s Cobras/427 Cobras used various metal clips, clamps, aluminum tie wraps, and in a couple of applications a plastic cord tied into knots.

You want single loop or double loop ;-)

cool, I like the aluminum ties. I remember those from my first 60's japanese bikes. Is there a source for them now?

Yup moi. I'll have to check your gallery and see how you're doing. Must be OK if your looking for little finish details like that.

haha, not quite, I'm trying to plan all the little things I need to order before reassembly. Just ordered almost every bolt in the fricking car new, just because I didn't like the way some of them looked.

Ended up going with Penske shocks and new springs also, the chassis was setup kinda funny. Not a great street setup. Guess I'll be pm'ing you for some ties :D

Can anyone get the original double-hump aluminum ties? I've only been able to source the single hump ones.

Do you have an image of those ties? I'm a newb and not familiar with them

I found an aluminum tie with two loops or slits, is that what you mean?

Scott_Tucker 02-08-2011 08:22 AM

Yes, they are the ones with two slits. I'll try to get a picture of them at work.

I didnt know about Nick's but found these on Ebay, item 190468481267
They're a little longer and wider at the head, but are pretty nice quality. And the price is great.

What's the proper way to use the double buckle?

i used a combo of the rubber insulated ones and the type of clamp that you would typically see holding a brake line. but i removed the rubber for the look and the idea it would probably melt around my headers. i shoved all of my wires into looms, the fiber woven cloth type.(black) i think they are high temp fiberglass.
oh.....WIRING SUCKS>>>>>>
i seriously hope i never have to do it again. lol

mickmate 02-09-2011 07:44 PM

One loop ties the strap to the frame, the other ties the harness or line to it.

genius! so simple, but who'da thunk it?!
