Starter button questions
I have some questions about starter buttons on 289 Cobras
First question... were they ever used on 289s? Second question... is there a thread covering starter buttons that I haven’t yet found? Third etc., ... is a Lucas SPB105 or SPB106 suitable, and are they identical switches with the only difference being that the SPB105 has screw connections whereas the SPB106 has spade connections? And...is there another period-correct push button switch I should be considering? Cheers, Glen |
All street cars were key start.
The photos I have of the FIA race cars also show a key but they could have had a button. I will ping my resident FIA/USRRC expert and ask. |
Thanks.
I've found a couple of pics... This one, because of its location looks like an add-on (a COB6xxx car). It also looks like something lower profile than a SPB105/106 And is that the horn button just to the right of the steering wheel? if it is, is that standard location? http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...048_dash_2.jpg This one is closer to the ignition switch, but is quite possibly an add-on. http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...89_65-int2.jpg Comments welcome. Cheers, Glen |
Production cars used normal ignition key activated starter, Lucas switches early and Ford for CSX2201 and up. I am not well versed on early cars but CSX2201 and later rack and pinion street cars have a cream white white plastic push button for the windshield washer pump sourced from a 1956 Linclon Premier. Ford used the design later than a Cobra again in Broncos but with a black plastic button.

Thanks Dan. Where is the horn button location on your car?
