Hood Removal on Original 427

I have had the hood off many times but can't remember what I had to do. All I remember is that it's not easy. What all do I need to remove before the hood will come out?

A problem we all wish we had !!!!!!!!!!!
It's same as a Kirkham ! Hinge comes apart under nose. work thru grill opening. There's a bolt or allen head screw that holds hood part of hinge to frame pivot part. Remove those two fasteners and remove hood. Watch for shim washers between the two pieces. The "t" shaped pivot piece stays with the car.

I believe the Kirkham has a modified hinge as stated above, it makes getting the hood off a lot easier. The original cars you have to remove the hinge bolt and the panel between the radiator and and front edge of the hood opening if it has one. Tape the front edge of the hood and front edge of the hood opening as it is a very close fit working the hood clear. You may all so have to remove the top radiator hose and top radiator mount.

If the hood has been off the hinges may have been modified to the two piece. You need the radiator and trim pieces out of the way as the Kiwi said.

I just wasn't sure if I needed to take the radiator completely out and remove the two side panels that are riveted in. I will try to get it out without removing the radiator and side panels. I will take off the top radiator hose. May also need to take out the electric fan I have added since it will keep the radiator from moving back.

Sounds like hood pins and lanyards would be a sensible mod-original or not.

The best is the split hinge (like Nick did for Jeff's car)... on an orig, I would preserve the orig parts and replace the whole apparatus.

That would be the whole hood, If it was mine I would not be replacing any thing, just be careful and take your time. An extra set of good hands will help greatly.
