289 vs 427 Side Emblems

1 Attachment(s)
I am in the bodywork phase of an ERA slabside. While the exact measurements for mounting the side emblems for the 427 car is quite easy to locate, I am having problems determining exactly where to drill the holes for the 289. I do not have easy access to an original to measure. Looking at all the photos I can find it appears to be about 1/2 inch higher than the side vent and the back side about lines up with the hood handle. Greatly appreciated if anyone has some real measurements.

I've got the early mounting position from Doug's notes. I'll post a diagram today.

I've used double side tape for the emblems so that I didn't have to drill holes.

I used Doug's notes and a little analysis from my photos of the original cars.

Side Emblems

Excellent! Thank you. And when I drop them and break the pins off I will use
the double sided tape!

Hello, I checked on CSX2498 and from the top of the side vent it is 1" to the bottom of the emblem, from the door opening it is 12.5" to the back edge of the emblem.

Hope this helps, karl

Emblem Location

Thanks Karl, I wouldn't be surprised if it moved slightly based the serial numbers. I found quite a few photograghs of "original" cars where it appears a bit different.

If you don't have louvers at all, where is it place then?

jon@harrison.ne 08-17-2012 06:29 PM

My measurements agree with Karl's except I have 7/8" from top of louver opening to horizontal line along bottom of emblem, although since the louver isn't exactly level we are awful close.

Hey guys, I'm working on the Owner's Manuals for the MKII Street & FIA from Superformance and will probably review what is said here and compare it to the information I have collected so far on badging The info will appear in the service bulletins for both for the MKII chassis. Thus far from the discrepancies in the measurements I see posted and the info I have, I thinking that most of the badges were eye-balled when installed at the factory. Seems to be +\- 0.25" on badge placement. But I'm guessing the bodies themselves has the same +\- tolerances.

Well as CS said, the "winos under the bridge" probably had a plus/minus of three feet!

Knowing the British low-volume car industry of the sixties pretty well, I'd be very surprised if the originals had them all in the same place...

This conversation reminds me of an old saying I learned in engineering school (also in the 1960's). "Measure with a micrometer. Mark with chalk. Cut with an axe." I took the point to be that sometimes accurate measurements are not required.

I looked at several original cars to determine the location. Even more dicey when there is no vent.........

There is a bit of averaging with measurements.........

Ballpark, estimate and drill.............

Bob and Karl have you covered

GEE TEE 01-30-2014 04:41 PM

Hey Mickmate, that picture would be really handy on the thread about parking brake location.

Thanks
