Early 289 cars with Lucas generator....
It seems that cars up to around CSX2070 had Lucas generators.
Anybody have information as to which Lucas generator it is, and which regulator? And any pictures available? Cheers, Glen |
According to the original handbook
Generator: Lucas C40-1 V.R.: Lucas RB106/2 I suspect that most early 289s were converted to an alternator over the course of their lives... |

The trick part for systems with Lucas generators would be the large diameter (larger OD than the generator's case) cast aluminum sheave/fan combination. |
Thanks!
Any pictures available of the mounting brackets? Cheers, Glen |
One of the best pictures that I know of is posted on the Ford site where the many hundreds of period pictures are posted. The site has images of several HP260 Cobra items laying out on white backgrounds also; like the unique tublar headers, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, etc.

Do you have a link, Dan?

There was a post on this website that I used.

Here's a few pictures. This is from the Shelby Prototype Sunbeam Tiger. The car was constructed using "shared" pieces from the cobra so it has the Ford 260, Harrison overflow tank, Lucas C-40 generator, etc. I can't verify if this generator bracket is the exact same one used on other cobras but it may be. George Boskoff (the builder of the prototype) assured me that the piece used on the Tiger prototype was not a fabricated piece. The last photo is of a very early cobra with generator and it has a different bracket.

Wern't some of these generators used on David Brown tractors too?
