Original 289 luggage rack
I have in my possesion an original 289 luggage rack. I'm not looking to sell, as I am going to use it on my Factory Five / Mr. bruce slabside. Just wondering what it would be worth.
I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I wanted to sell. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n42/001-23.jpg John O |

John O,
While I do not need one, I am interested in getting some closeup pics and dimensions from the one you have if you are willing to provide them. If so, let me know and I can PM my e-mail info to you. Thanks, Jay |
Very interested in obtaining one if you decide to sell. I've been looking, but pretty much Austin Healy or MG parts available on-line. Let me know. Thanks in advance.

That's a pretty awesome find!

...and don't forget, this type of rack is designed to be fitted with the restraining bar at the FRONT, not the back, like so very many have been fitted to so many cars...

In 1964 the Class A Package included white wall tires and a luggage rack for $280 dollars.

I don't know about US products, but in the UK the retainer bar should be at the front. In the event of a sudden deceleration, such as hitting something, luggage flies forward with some force. I have seen this happen and the results are not pretty. No car, not even a 427, will accelerate hard enough to break the straps holding luggage on properly, so the bar's not needed at the back.
In the UK, all flat bed trucks have a restraining structure at the front of the truck bed. |
