I wonder how hard it would be to reproduce the jack say in a non-functional form with an aluminum casting painted appropriately. The guts could also be cast especially if they did not have to function under fully loaded conditions.
The handle looks simple enough too.

Obsessive 09-27-2012 10:43 PM

Too easy. Let's work on a solution for the real deal. Funny, when you consider that I drive a fiberglass Shelby! By the way, I finally added a photo album to show a few shots of my vehicle. I think mine is the same color as CSX3360. Not sure why, but when you go into my profile, you have to go to the right side of the screen and click on my album.

Here's the link to the AC Owners forum about grease guns:

I've pinged Scott again asking for more details on the tool kit in CSX3360.

The correct grease guns often come up on e-bay.
I wonder if Cobra #3170 could post some pics of the grease gun clips. From the pics on the AC wners forum , which did not have good close-ups of the clips, the clips look like the broomhandle clips you can get at the hardware store.

I just posted some pictures of my grease gun, it has never been used so it is what was delivered in my car. I screwed up posting pictures, did not get them together but you will see the grease gun and mount shots. The two clips are 3.0 " apart center to center with two pop rivets per clip the center line of the clips is 3.25 " above the trunk floor and the center line of the rearward clip is 4.75 " from the inside surface of the fender inboard of the trunk opening.
I hope this helps, my grease gun has the line on the applicator has described in the Cobra forum.

Obsessive 10-01-2012 10:12 PM

Perfect. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

I have an SC model, not a street version. Question: Did the SCs come with the grease gun, jack, toolkit, etc.?

I don't know because the big tank trunk is so different than a street car, I am pretty sure they had the spare tire with the car but don't remember the jack, handle, or grease gun. The first SC in Fresno was owned by George Harm and I think was delivered in the spring of 1966. This car was purchased by Dick Smith some time later. I actually went over to see it but don't remember the trunk area. SC's did not even have a heater or defroster so it is hard to believe that they would get a tool kit, grease gun, and jack. They did not even have a rear sway bar as delivered, at least this one did not which surprised me.

I've been all over the web looking for the brake bleeder tool. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Obsessive 10-05-2012 11:55 PM

No ideas on the brake bleeder tool, eh? How about the spare tire hold down straps like in this picture?

mickmate 10-06-2012 05:06 AM

The brake bleeder looks like a little box (tubular) wrench. I'd like to see one a bit closer up.
What size belt do you wear? The straps would be easy to rivet together. I'm not sure 427 SC's and Comps carried a spare.

Obsessive 10-07-2012 09:52 AM

Very funny... but agreat idea! 3 belts, a chrome ring, 3 cleats and some rivets. Bam!

I suspect you're right about the SC model not carrying a spare. If I'm not mistaken, the SCs originally came about in an effort for Shelby American to sell more cars. I believe they took a few comp cars that were already produced (and sitting without buyers), and performed a mild conversion to street, resulting in the SC model.

My 4000 series car is pretty consistent with the original SCs as far as I can tell, but with a couple of discrete liberties that I took to make the car more street friendly. For example, I added a heater/defroster and ran the hoses down/behind the motor, along the oil pan rail and back up the front of the motor to the water pump and the expansion tank. The switch for the unit is mounted behind the dash where only I know where to locate it. It's only noticable if you're really paying attention. Same goes for the defroster vents; they're so commonplace on Cobras that you tend to not notice them unless you're paying attention to the fact that this is an SC. I stayed with vinyl seats, no glove box, no map pockets, etc.

Anyway, I'm of the opinion that the addition of a spare tire, jack, toolkit and grease gun is a good idea for a car that will likely be driven on the street most of it's life. When I get it all together, I'll try posting a couple of pictures. For starters, here's a picture of what the trunk currently holds.

Purdy lookin trunk. Why are the front quick jacks on the back?

Obsessive 10-08-2012 10:53 PM

You've got a good eye Nick. (I suspect you'd also be the guy who notices the heater/defroster on my SC.) They've been that way for years and I never thought of it. I only noticed how odd it was that the front quickjacks were so close to the radiator opening. Now I know what I'll be doing for a couple of hours on Saturday!

Well, here is a jack to get you guys started....

SHELLEY 12DL JACK ( LJ22 AC COBRA ) | eBay

Obsessive 10-20-2012 07:21 PM

Ya, that one sold for $687, plus $39 shipping. Ugh. Did Shelley make these things out of silver? Think I'll wait for Mickmate to bring us an affordable solution.

mickmate 11-17-2013 07:20 PM

OK I was searching for rear sway bar info and got back to here. I have in my hands right now a real deal Shelley LJ22 jack. I have had a quote for making patterns for casting them up. I have most of the machined parts drawn up in CAD and ready to go. Anyone want to commit to the jack project with me to at least cover pattern making costs? I think it may be around that price at least to produce them. Obviously price depending on batch size which is why I'm here. I only have one brake bleeder tool left from the first batch.

That 12DL sold for $687?!!!!! Geez!

Don't want to hijack thread but this is the clearest pic of a trunk I've seen. I'm looking for the measurements of the recessed area in the trunk. All measurements woukd be appreciated.
Thanks if you can help.

I don"t want to hijack the thread, but I saw this pick of the tunk and I would like to do the exact recessed area in the trunk.
If someone is willing and it isnt too much trouble I would appreciate the measurements of the area.

i can post a pick to show which measurements i am looking for and start a new thread.
thanks in advance.

Hi Nick

I think you should start to add a reproduction of the jack to your list of great items.
Yesterday one got sold without handle on ebay for 440$.
I'm sure there will be some people arround interested to mount one in the trunk.
:)
