Smiths Tachometer
My tachometer bounces around when I drive over bumps or when I corner hard. It bobs up and down by as much as 1000 RPM on the dial. Is this normal? It's always done it and I wonder if I should repair/replace it or consider it part of the "character" of the car. If it can be repaired, who can do it?

I use Nisonger but typically find replacement cost is comparable to repair costs.

I wouldn't say that mine bounces but it definitely "bobs", especially after a big decrease in RPM's - it takes a few seconds to stabilize.
I will be driving my Cobra to work tomorrow and I will make a point to watch the tach when I hit a bump.

I highly recommend NISONGER. I've used them several times in the past and have had excellent results. Give them a call. They're great to deal with and will do you right.

They sell and repair SMITH Instruments - I recently purchased a new Amp gauge from Pete Bayer (Contemporary Cobras), who has been there for a number of years.

No. I have a Ford mechanical advace distributor with a Pertronix ignition module. I have been (for years) thinking about changing to an MSD ignition system that would allow me to retard timing at start while setting the idle with plenty of advance. It's one of those things that I keep putting off due to other distractions.

Gaugeguys at Gaugeguys.com are also very good with giving advice related to Smiths gauges and MSD ignitions. Think their prices are cheaper than Nisonger also.
