427 Comp igntion coil location
Anyone know where does it live on 427's? They have a dimple and bolt hole on the top front left of the intake manifolds but I heard oil filled coils don't like lying down. I believe street cars were on the front of the left head but even that's a squeeze with the filter and bracket on there already.

I dont know if this helps, but if you go to the Carroll Shelby Engine Co website and look under complete engines they have a picture of the FE with a coil mounted on the left cylinder head. I purchased one of these brackets for my 445 fe this spring I used 1/4 aluminum spacers to space it away from the head.

I can take a picture of my engine and post it if it would help

That's some kinda fantasy garage you've got there gthompson. Wow.

Hi George, thanks for that. I see yours doesn't have the Galaxy filter on the front of that head. That makes more room there for the coil and makes me wonder what is correct for fuel filter for comps or if it all comes back to the as "built" deal with these cars.
This is consistent with Georges coil position. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3820/g4271965large.jpg |
No problem
Let me know if you need any other pictures of anything on the engine And thanks for the comments Obsessive, I probably need to sell some stuff Lol |
The eagle eyed will see on that picture of the engine there is a blank off plate for the fuel pump. With a fuel pump it will require a different coil location to fit.
George I should get a heap of pictures to you I have for your library of 3020 and a few of 2096. |
I can't speak for originality. However, it all fits; filter cannister, coil, mechanical fuel pump and remote oil filter.
This is my set up, although the photo is of it out of the car. David |
Hey David good shot of a fine example thanks. What are you using for a filter bracket? You see the old style are on the front of the head.

George
My son still misses 3020, feels all red Cobras are 3020 at this point..... Although in a sort of recent outing in NC he was asked by a replica owner if he wanted to sit in his car and he then started to rattle off facts about 3020 and then said no thanks I have been in the real deal. Cant make this stuff up........... Kids.... |

I discarded the bracket long ago. After the photo was taken, I made up some new 3/8" stainless line, and eliminated the crappy-looking brass adapters previously attached to the fuel pump. When the inverted-flare fittings are snug on the new stainless line, the fuel cannister is very firm. David |
