Are you talking about the indicator switch? As with a Healey 3000, early TR, or just about any early '50s British car, there is a stator tube running the length of the column that keeps the steering wheel centre stationary whilst turning the wheel. The chrome 'lever' attached to this is turned to right or left to operate the indicators (US = turn signal?). The cancelling mechanism is hidden behind it.

I have used the same boss on split and solid wheels. I believe they have the same BC on most 6 screws of that type. I was changing it with a Lecarra wood wheel. The split spoke 16" has more dish to it than the two other types shown from the look of things. That gains you a little more knee clearance you lose with a diameter increase. Probably a wash but when we try a couple of combos on a tall customer I'll let you know. I have bored the top rings to accept the emblems. I'm putting together a Motolita order now so if anyone else wants to get in on it let me know.

Steering Wheel
I don't think for a minute #3170, that the photo of your oringinal wheel is not just that, knowing of you and your car, but I was bothered by the 3 example photos from the begining.
It has been some years since I've owned 3183, and with 2 bouts of cancer with the chemo and radiation, the old memory is sometimes spotty. But observing the photos on the "Coupe" forum, reference the Lesher Daytona Coupe, there in the thread are photos of an oringinal Coupe. The steering wheel that is on that coupe, is what I remember my original wheel to be, solid at the hub, not cut into the spokes. |
