USRRC oil pressure gauge question
For the experts on originality:
From photos I have seen, the normal SW oil pressure gauge for the 289 street cars was the 90 degree sweep version (during the SW era). It appears that the USRRC cars like 2 4 5 8 and 2 4 5 9, and maybe 2 5 1 4 came with the street dash w/glovebox. I have some photos of 2 4 5 9 that show a 270 degree sweep oil pressure gauge. I was curious to know if that gauge would have been the 0-80lb or the 0-100lb version... can't make it out on the photo. Was there any consistancy? Would it being a race version mean they used the higher range gauge, or the 80lb gauge like the street version? It is the smaller size 2-1/16" gauge, rather than the 2-5/8" race gauge. |

The picture of 2514 above gives the answer. Usrrc cars no consistency .See fuel pressure gauge is a 2 5/8th gauge, probaly one that was in stock. The rest normal street 2 1/16th.

On CSX 2514, the gas cap has some sort of addition. Is this a vent or ???

My home grown solution after my first open track was to cut a couple of short pieces of heater hose, slit one side lengthwise, and slip it over the boot lid frame tube work. There is no interfence with opening and closing the boot lid but it would no longer rattle and shift side to side so much it could come open. Added no holes or other permanent changes. |
"Look at enough old publications and you'll see most of the team cars with a long loop pad lock on the fuel caps at some time or another." Was that to stop the pesky Chevvy boys from sabotaging the gas, Dan ?/
Joking aside, this is the first reference to that, that I`ve heard, but have seen what I think Dan is referring to on a coupe. Difficult to be sure but one can just make out the loop of the lock. Any references or pics? as I find this sort of thing intriguing. |

I remember reading that one of the FIA cars in Europe had stopped running during a race and it appeared the fuel system was clogged with a cloth like material.
That was Hill at Spa 1964 in a coupe. |

It appears that the oil pressure gauge in the photo of 2514 is the 0-80lb gauge. Again, anyone in the know on the correct range for the oil pressure gauges in the USRRC cars? |

I have to admit... that oil pressure gauge sure does look the part of an original, with the yellowed face printing;)! Thanks for posting this. |
