CSX2259 front fenders

This post is related to tkb289's thread on FIA trunk bumps....

CSX2259 is an unusual car. It didn't have trunk bumps, and it had two configurations of front fenders
FIA-type front flares:

and standard(-ish) roadster front fenders, with fairing:

Does anybody know the story on why 2259 had different front fenders at different times? I'm assuming that it started out with the standard roadster fenders with fairings and then changed to the FIA front flares. As an FIA car, why was it different in this way?
Cheers,
Glen

CSX2259 & **** started life with standard front fenders with "spats" added by SAI when run at Daytona, later on the fenders were reshaped to what became the flared fender that the comp cars were delivered with later on from the factory. The #16 car provided in your post is a recreation of 2259, the real 2259 was destroyed at Sebring in 1964.

Yep, destroyed!
One thing I've never seen replicated is the air deflector on the windscreen. Always thought that was something I'd do if I ever did an FIA.

Recreation?

Isn't there some controversity about 2259? I've heard occasional references to it but don't know any of the story. Was it written off and then rebuilt with new chassis, new body, or what?
Cheers,
Glen

Usable parts of the original were used on an Angliss body/chassis, which is the car seen today. I don't think there's much controversy over it though as it's history is known.

I believe the Registry refers to the car as a "replica".

The story is usable parts were taken off the car, the frame was cut up and thrown out. But apparently a Shelby employee took some parts of the frame out of the dumpster and sold them at some point. And later those frame parts were sent to Brian Angliss and a car was built.

...and which car did those frame bits from the dumpster become?

I'll try to paraphrase the registry...

Supposedly Shelby employee Jim Findlay removed some parts of the cut up CSX2259 remains from the dumpster. Later Lynn Park bought whatever it was that Findlay found. And a replica of CSX2259 was built around that by Brian Angliss.

It sounds like it is not clear whether anything was actually taken from the dumpster and if something was taken, there is no description of what it was.
