The Tool Kit: is this the right spanner clip?
Can anyone tell me if these pics show the right tool clip for the Elora spanners. It says Elora on the spanner clip.
Interestingly, it has spaces for 6 spanners but most of the tool kit pics on this forum show only 5 spannners. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...humbs/0077.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/00212.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/00115.JPG Cheers Greg |
Neat find, I believe we are looking for a single blue clip that wraps all 5 of them together. It has a vee on the overlap to snap shut and a hinge to open at a corner. I think I threw mine away after undoing it and doing it up as an impatient kid that just needed the right spanner right now.

Hi mickmate. Here is a pic of a 289 tool kit which was posted by one of the members in a previous thread and a cropped blow-up of the spanner clip sitting next to the hammer.
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...kit_289_21.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...lkit_289_3.jpg Notice the "rippley" top on the spanner clip and now compare to this pic of the top of my clip. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...humbs/0144.JPG Looks similar to me. What do you think? I also have a pic of a clip similar to what you described which I will post later. Cheers Greg |
That sure looks like a very original and nice patina toolkit. I have noticed like you most kits show 5 spanners. I guess you don't need to use all 6 slots or you could tuck a bleeder tool in the end one.

Like a blue one of these

Mickmate: this may be the other spanner clip you were refering to. I got this one off a set of Elora metric spanners (e-bay UK). They were packaged in a more modern shrink wrap package, 80's or 90's I would guess.
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...humbs/0114.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...humbs/0085.JPG The problem is it's very narrow -perhaps too narrow for the Elora spanners I've got. I'll have to try it. Greg |
Hey Greg
That pic I posted in an earlier thread of the tool kit is from CSX2227. Just for your info. Larry |
Greg it looks like you have the same clip as shown in the 289 kit.

He has them all, he's been doing some great detective work!

Hi Larry. I've been using that pic of CSX 2227's tool kit as one of my standards to replicate a tool kit for my car. The other standard is the pics of the Bruce Canepa resto of CSX3360.
Yeah Rick and Mickmate, too many wasted hours spent on e-bay looking at all kinds of stuff sometimes yields small rewards. Greg |
The only different in the one you have and the originals is the originals were for 5 wrenches and yours is for 6 wrenches. Good find! Elora sold sets that had both 5 and 6 wrenches.
