Trunk framework colour

Rinsey Mill's 'Original Ace and Cobra' book states that the framework and the wiring inside the trunk should be painted silver - is this true for all 289s?

The street chassis were painted black. After the boot compartment panels were installed everything in the boot up to that point was painted silver except the well in the tire tray. The braces in the boot are silver with black paint under the silver. Factory photos (including the Ford archive site one) shows this pretty well. The curious part is that the silver on the wings of tire trays has a slight champagne gold type appearance (similar to the 'argent' color sometimes used by car companies). The rubber dust plugs for the differential hanger holes, the top box strap, the jack clip, the bows and jack rod clamps (and wing nuts) were not painted silver but installed after the painting.

Looks like 2000 from the overriders.

It (the rectanglar section hinges car) is CSX2000. A story published several years ago indicated that the series of images of two cars side by side you see in the gallery were taken specifically to show the differences in the prototype and the production cars. Look carefully and you will see many construction and coachwork differences.

CSX2000 is very much like the ACE RS2.6s that were made before and after Cobra production started. Production Cobras were made differently on purpose.

Off subject - but I noticed the up the snout photo of the 427 car doesn't reveal a pusher fan up in there. What did it use for moving air in traffic?

Nedsel 03-05-2013 02:01 PM

Didn't see any 427 cars in that file, and in '64 there wouldn't have been one.

DanEC 03-05-2013 02:19 PM

Ned - did you leaf through all of the photos?

Well, actually there are about 500 picutres in that album but I happened to stumble on the above 427 car pictures close to the ones posted. There are also Shelby Mustang photos in this album so 1064 is kind of a misnomer.

I have looked at most of the folders many times (the individual images that are posted get changed occassionally) and I wouldn't depend on dates the foundation put on folders because images in all folders that are not event specific are not strictly accurate.

There's something also kind of funky bolted down under the rear of the body also??

Ah, there are some fabulous photos of Brands Hatch in the early sixties in there. I remember it well - as a kid, wandering around the paddock - at one meeting, I was looking at Jack Brabham's car, and one of the mechanics picked me up and put me in it...
...those were the days!

Regarding the images posted on the archive site, note that I said they change from time to time. There are pictures that were up a couple of months ago that are not shown now. There are quite a few images that I wish I had gotten copies up before they took them down.
