289 genuine car?

I am trying to find more info, but a frined tells me he visited a mates parents house, and he had this amongst many Aston Martins.

He tells me current owner bought it in pretty bad condition, and while rebuilding it, had the car converted to R/H drive?

I hope he will come back with numbers.

Looks more like an ACE body to me with flares and a V8 added. Look at the nose around the turn signals.
Still nice looking.

That was my initial thought too, Bristol ACE hot rodded.

Footboxes also look ACE Bristol. Modern air cleaner too.

Might be the car the owner says is 2041. Its doors are numbered 379, which we suspect may be the number of the "donor" Ace.

Not necessarily a modern air cleaner. I bought one of these 1967 oval air cleaners in 1986 from Vintage Ford and Mustang in Phoenix. Mine had a dual-quad base. I was told they could be bought at the dealer as dress-up kits.

I used to have a catalog from 1967 that pictured them. So not modern, but not originally equipped on Mustangs or Cobras. They reproduce them now along with the valve covers.

Yes, nice looking car. I would love to vintage race that car.

The air cleaner logo came out in the 80's, if it was a true early car it would not have the later nose emblem either. I'll concur with Ned on this one. An ACE in Cobra clothing:rolleyes:

The battery location also looks incorrect.. at least for the race version cobras. My understanding is that the batteries were in the passenger side rear wheel well.

Cool! I did not know that particular "CS" emblem was that old!
Thanks for the info.

Indeed the logo is there, but the style of this logo, as shown on the air cleaner, was brought out in the 80's, that is what I was stating in my original post. The way in which it is cast is different than that of a 60's version. Just like some of the newer style valve covers (with just Shelby on them) is different than that of the original 60's versions.

if you would like to split hairs, I'll make the following statement with 100% accuracy:

"The valve covers and the air cleaner are not originals from the 60's", neither is this an original AC Cobra, but a made up AC Ace.

If it is a made up ACE and owners changed in period to V8 - what would the status of such a car be now in the registry? It is period modification in a sense?

mickmate 09-26-2013 04:22 PM

It would be of interest to the Ace registry.

1985 CCX 09-26-2013 05:58 PM

I love the AC Ace converted.....
Best way for us working class to get a real #'d car...

Nice little ride....

diverrick 09-26-2013 09:35 PM

No matter what, it is still a very nice looking ride.
