I think back to 2005 when he bought the Kirkham FIA from me and how cool he was then. I had it for sale for a short time and he called me to discuss buying it and we talk Cobras. He started telling me his history with Cobras and I have the first edition of the Registry so looked him up and there he was. I think he was pricing a new Kirkham FIA at the time and mine was a bit cheaper (original leaf spring supension in the front) but we were a few thousand off a deal. He called a few more times over the next few weeks and then I took the car off the market as decide I was going to keep it and put a high compression weber carb motor in it. Over the next couple months he call me a few times a week and finally convinced me to sell the car to him. Him and his wife came to Dallas for several days when they bought it and the test drive with him was like being at Leguna Sega through the turns. After the purchase him and wife cruised around Dallas a few days and then had it shipped to Florida. They were extremely nice people like Jeff stated! I talked to Richard now then but hadn't heard from him in the last couple years so hope he mends quickely and get's back to what he loves to do. Maybe he should stick with the cars for the future however......

Blackhawks Farms mainly.

He sometimes came to the track with no crew..... Always very polite and kept to himself, very buttoned down. I remember that he used a very blocky font for his name on the car. Ran up front most of the time. This was early 70's and to tell the truth I mainly remember hi running the 'vette.

I hope he gets real healthy real fast

I just spoke with Richard's wife and there has been no change in Richard's status yet, just wanted to update the forum. As this is a very stressful time for Richard's wife she wanted me to let everyone know that she appreciates the your thoughts and prayers, thank you.

Richard did not campaign the Cobra and Vette simultaneously.

Any news on Richard's condition?

God Bless and all prayers to Richard and his family from here.

Spoke with Richard's wife this afternoon.

It's not very good. He is still in ICU...the bruises are healing and the surgeries are working...but he is on a ventilator and cannot breathe on his own.

He is responsive, but not communicative. At best, this will be a long-term recovery.

Keep the prayer network going... it is quite far from being no longer needed.

Will try and update in a few days.

It is with much sadness and a tear in my eye...

...Richard passed away this morning from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was a good friend to me, and the Cobra community at large. I treasure even more now the time spent together at SAAC-38.

He will be missed.

Godspeed Richard, we'll miss you here but Carroll, Rem and the lads will be keen to catch you up.

...a habit that never was broken.

We spent a great weekend with him out at SAAC-38 last month, and watched with enjoyment as he thrashed his Kirkham FIA on the track at AutoClub Speedway.

Sorry to hear that. My condolences to his family. He will be missed by us all.
Larry

I guess I should probably be the one to close this thread as I started it. Richard was a good friend to me and I will cherish the phone conversations he and I had on nearly a daily basis, conversations that ranged from good to bad and some that very deep in thought. Although Richard has passed he passed in a way that he would have wanted, many of you may not have been aware but Richard was struggling with his health and the fact that he went out doing something he enjoyed rather than being bed ridden and unable to enjoy the things that he lived for is the way Richard would have only hoped for. I will miss my friend but I can still hear our many conversations. RIP Richard you have earned it. John

Thanks John...fitting.

I'll lock it down.
