Cobra 427 Street: Hood latch locations
Hi all. Can anyone give me the the hood latch location measurements for a 427 Street roadster?
Distance apart center to center and Distance back from the edge of the hood. I'm trying to figure out if I can relocate the hood latches on my NAF. The configuration of the stiffner/lining of my hood may not allow it, but I'd like to try. Thanks Greg |

Hi mickmate. Yes I do have to workaround stiffening ribs on the bottom side of the hood. Post pics later.
Another thing came to mind. Did the Street 427 Cobras use long or short cams on the latches? Cheers Greg |
My original street car is 25&7/8 inches center to center measuring along the crown. 2.5 inches to the center from the edge. I don't know if it's a long or short cam since I don't know what the difference is.

I think I have attached a picture of the cam on my car with a quarter to give an idea how long the cam is. Hope this helps.

I measured around 2-5/8" from the edge of a couple and fairly consistent with the 25-7/8". Dimensions like this vary a lot from car to car by 1/4" or more on these handmade cars. They don't use a cam they use a latch plate as shown.

Greg, What I did on my NAF was ordered some originals, then tore them apart for the springs and catch. Measured how long the latch had to be to reach and cut one out that long, then cut some metal out the shape of the originals long enough for the new latch and bent them up. So I ended up with some supersized versions of the original latches. Just need to cut the shafts for the springs and pins. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...6/ppuser/38156

Thanks Paul. Great job. I think I will follow a similar path. But I have cut out the curved corner gusset on the body, so I will relocate my latch so it will contact a "receiver" fastened to the firewall.

Should turn out good and look closer to an original. Forgot to say that mine turned out 24in. apart and 4in. from the edge of the hood. Looking forward to browsing thru the manual.
