Radiator bottom hose
Does anyone have a pic of the route taken by the rad bottom hose?
I have a 5-bolt 289 with a passenger-side lower hose inlet. The radiator is an aluminum copy, with a 90deg elbow at the bottom on the passenger side. I'm guessing the hose should go through the centre of the leafspring mount frame (it can't go through the gap on the right side as this is a RHD car and the steering gear fills this space). Or should it go under the chassis? |
Remember, you have the Otter tube casting mounted above the steering rack and it connects to the pump and radiator. I think I have a photo on my computer at home showing it. I'll have to look it up tonight.

I might have guessed there'd be a special part, and a casting at that. I don't suppose they're available anywhere, used or repro? Not the same as the Tiger part? |
Not exactly like yours BUT this works perfect. I am using a Fluidyne Shelby spec radiator with the lower outlet modified a small amout because of frame interference:

I'm not sure what the Tiger uses but I doubt it's the same. There have been reproductions made but I'm not aware of any currently produced. It took me quite a while to find mine but I did find one. There's a couple threads about them if you do a search. Dan has some outstanding photos and of course his knowledge about them is so helpful.
One similar could be fabricated out of tubing, which is what I was going to do but found a cast one instead. Larry |

radiator fan switch housing
Roger, If you have a copy of Rinsey Mills AC COBRA, THE TRUTH BEHIND THE ANGLO-AMERICAN LEGEND; the housing/tube is shown in both Mk1 and 2 applications on page 30. To use this piece, your radiator needs to have the bottom tube with the 90 degree bend facing up and not sideways as on a Mk3 car.

Thanks AJ, I do have the book but hadn't appreciated the fine detail. Again though the main pic is LHD, and I don't know if it's different for RHD as that is exactly where the column goes.
Thanks Larry - those are fantastic pictures which help for many reasons! My rad has the elbow lying sideways, so I may need to get a bit of surgery done, but fabricating an elbow shouldn't be too difficult. The motor's not in yet so when it is I'll have a better idea of clearances etc. It's the RHD bit that concerns me... Roger. |
