Dash mounted rear view mirror

Hi all. A question about the dash mounted rear view mirror on the 427 Cobra Street roadsters.

Did the back of the mirror have a black crinkle finish or was it chrome?

My mirror (aftermarket from one of the Cobra parts suppliers I can't remember too long ago) is chrome.

Just wondering.

Cheers
Greg

Could also be black crinkle or black wrinkle. ;)

Smooth tapered stem, two little clips holding the glass, one short one long.....should it lean forward or back?? Should the short clip be on the top or the bottom????

Lean forward.
That will also give you a slightly larger field of vision. ;)

Most of the pictures in my collection agree with the parts that I have held in my hand.

- glass had a ordinary gray back
- clamp holding the glass was painted in black wrinkled finish
- the stem is different than a Cobra in that it has a goose neck like 90° bend near the top that moves the glass just a little closer to the driver

Great info. Thanks guys.

Went to the Shelby facility in Vegas yesterday and took lots of pics.

One car on display was Shelby's 427 street roadster (with sidepipes, hoodscoop, rollbar and comp gas cap) that had a 428 and an automatic trans.

Got some pics of the mirror:

Center Mirror

Black wrinkle finish on mirror back and mount, chrome stem. The mirror was made of regular glass which breaks into sharp pieces (mine broke). My understanding is that the mirror is illegal to reproduce or install because of NHTSA standards. Maybe Mic can shed some light on this issue.

The correct mirror is a Lucas 104:

I purchased an extremely accurate reproduction from Bill Kemper last year - NOT Cheap:
