Up for grabs, a 64 AC cobra CSX 2434
 

This is a white w/blue striped AC. This one has been freshly painted and restored by Canepa in Scotts Valley Ca. I didn't ask what the price is but very nice eye candy if you ever get in the area to see it.

It always makes me wonder when I read these for sale ads why some of the stuff done on the car was done? For example, it said it was restored in 1989 by Kirkham and only driven 40 miles all the way through 2005 if I read it correctly. From 2005 until now, there is no mention of mileage, but considering the value, I highly doubt anybody put 40k hard miles on it and/or left it in the rain. So then Canepa mentions they did another complete restoration. I really wonder what was wrong with the car that it needed another complete restoration? Is this just becoming a buzz word to inflate the price? I think some of these rare cars had more spent on restorations than the car is actually worth. Add in the fact that a lot of people like the look of a car that has actually been driven and you really begin to scratch your head.

Why not restored to original colors?

Did it really have 50,000 miles in 1969? That's a lot. The ad says mileage is 5277. Something doesn't add up.

The registry mentions that the odometer was reset during a restoration a number of years ago, so the current mileage indicated is since then.

I am surprised it only had 50K on the clock in '69.

Getting tired of museum quality restoration being done on many cars.

I love how it looks! Not fond of those wheels on this car but it does say the original wheels are being restored and will go with the car.

Did anyone notice that the shifter seems too be offset to the right side?

The reason the shifter seems offset to the right side, is because the car was fitted with Tremec 5 speed gear box (according to the Registry) and as a result the shifter comes up from the transmission tunnel a bit biased to the right side.

Beautiful car with a good history, Canepa does indeed do very nice work. The white with blue stripes is a good looking combination, I too would love to have a Cobra like this.

I also wonder why not go the the original color (vineyard green in this case), but Canepa has done this before. Case in point is CSX3360, originally red, but when Bruce did the stunning restoration, the car was painted a beautiful dark blue. From what I understand, the logic is paint it the color you like, and if sometime down the road the new owner wants it changed back to the 'original' color, it can be done. Relative to the cost of the car, it's not that expensive.

Per the registry, 2434 was vineyard green, then black, then white with blue stripes … so for this recent restoration, they kept with the white and blue stripes.

That being said, as mentioned above, there seems to be a lot of 'restoration', then 're-restoration' … ect.

Interesting that both Peter Portante (ERA) and Tom Krikham have an affiliation with CSX2434, given their roles in the Cobra Replica industry.

The invoice notes 'Chrome Wheels', and yet in the details listed by Canepa … "The original wire wheels are being refurbished and refinished in their original satin silver " So Chrome wheels or Satin were original ?

I like the 'Role' Bar for 141.56 ;)

I didn't look it up in the registry but that makes sense about the shifter being right. It looks a little too tall as well. The ad says it's a four speed but I'm nick-picking again!

Although the car was ordered/ delivered with 5 chrome wire wheels, the buyer of the car may have preferred painted wires, or a later owner might have swapped them. In any event, the spare wheels Canepa has today are painted.

Well put, hard to know all the little bits of history for a particular car. The Registry does a great job of coming pretty darn close ... nice work ... :)

Maybe they just try to adopt the "re-restoration" to todays standards?
or talked the current owner into this, always a nice way to make money.
But car is genuine, right?

Quality restorations are nice for detail. But why kill those poor black widows who have made the framework their home?

For some reason, this one isn't vibing with me like some others... :o

The simple answer is it's my personal choice if I was so inclined to spend the type of coin to purchase it, or one like it.

After personally owning 24-427SC's and 1-289FIA replicas, I'm digging the slabside vibe, a simple body, with the addition of the factory rollbar (should I want to go to the track), a small block for the street as well as the track. Far more usable than a BB car (98% of mine above were BB's, so no bias here). Simplicity and beauty all wrapped up in one package.
