Up for grabs, a 64 AC cobra CSX 2434
This is a white w/blue striped AC. This one has been freshly painted and restored by Canepa in Scotts Valley Ca. I didn't ask what the price is but very nice eye candy if you ever get in the area to see it.

It always makes me wonder when I read these for sale ads why some of the stuff done on the car was done? For example, it said it was restored in 1989 by Kirkham and only driven 40 miles all the way through 2005 if I read it correctly. From 2005 until now, there is no mention of mileage, but considering the value, I highly doubt anybody put 40k hard miles on it and/or left it in the rain. So then Canepa mentions they did another complete restoration. I really wonder what was wrong with the car that it needed another complete restoration? Is this just becoming a buzz word to inflate the price? I think some of these rare cars had more spent on restorations than the car is actually worth. Add in the fact that a lot of people like the look of a car that has actually been driven and you really begin to scratch your head.

Why not restored to original colors?
Did it really have 50,000 miles in 1969? That's a lot. The ad says mileage is 5277. Something doesn't add up. |
The registry mentions that the odometer was reset during a restoration a number of years ago, so the current mileage indicated is since then.

I love how it looks! Not fond of those wheels on this car but it does say the original wheels are being restored and will go with the car.

Interesting that both Peter Portante (ERA) and Tom Krikham have an affiliation with CSX2434, given their roles in the Cobra Replica industry. The invoice notes 'Chrome Wheels', and yet in the details listed by Canepa … "The original wire wheels are being refurbished and refinished in their original satin silver " So Chrome wheels or Satin were original ? I like the 'Role' Bar for 141.56 ;) |
I didn't look it up in the registry but that makes sense about the shifter being right. It looks a little too tall as well. The ad says it's a four speed but I'm nick-picking again!

In any event, the spare wheels Canepa has today are painted. |

Well put, hard to know all the little bits of history for a particular car. The Registry does a great job of coming pretty darn close ... nice work ... :) |
Maybe they just try to adopt the "re-restoration" to todays standards?
or talked the current owner into this, always a nice way to make money. But car is genuine, right? |
