Cobra 427 knockoff spinner thread size
Hi all. Just curious. What is the thread size of the Cobra 427 drive hubs/knockoff spinners?
I have Trigo hubs and spinners on my car that I got from Lynn Parks when he still had the company. The current Trigo website says the spinners are 2.34" dia (whatever that means). With so many different suppliers of Cobra spinners on the market (including old Halibrands on e-bay), can anyone tell me the various(or standard) thread size used? Cheers Greg |
We've been using the Halibrand wing nuts for about 30 years. A couple of years ago (when Halibrand changed hands) we got a batch that wasn't quite like the older ones. I think they're OK now. The Vintage Wheel wing nuts are useable, but the threads are about 005" larger.
When we machine our hubs, we use these specs: OD: 2.320"-2.33" 60 deg. Unified form thread, 8 tpi. Pitch diameter: 2.244"-2.249" measured by 3-wire method or pitch micrometer. |
Thanks strictlypersonl. Great info.
But more specifically: a forum member is selling a set of spinners (may be Backdraft). Will they fit my Trigo hub threads? I guess I'll have to call Backdraft and get their spinner thread specs. It may be time to set up a "mix and match" chart. Cheers Greg |

The original thread used on 289 & 427 Cobras was "55". The production 427 knock-offs were actually marked with the "55". Another interesting note was that HALIBRAND used "Harvey Aluminum" and the knock-offs were also marked this way.
