To cap or not to cap?
To cap or not to cap?
That is the question. Or Was it a question? Or Was it even a question? I've noticed in many SAAC publications a totally random occurance on 427 comp, SC and street cars, Sunburst or Halibrand wheels, show, concourse or otherwise: The use of the small aluminum caps in the front and rear hubs. Some cars use all four, some none, and some just in the front hubs but not the rear. Was there a recommended placement or use? Just wondering. Cheers Greg |
The original 1960s 289 Cobras had wire wheels and the knock offs covered
the hub openings. The race cars had mag wheels with open hubs and small red rubber balls were jammed into the front hub openings to protect the wheel bearings from contamination. The rear hubs were left open. All original 60s Cobras and modern replicas from all manufactures should have some sort of plugs in the front hubs while anything in the rears is just bling, and unsprung weight bling at that! |
If you want the dirty race car look... Leave them off.
Else if you prefer elegant street road going look... Put em on. Enjoy either way looks good to me. |
Ah, the ying and the yang. the comp look vs the street look.
I have tried both on my street roadster and like the look raw, functional look of no center caps. Thanks for the info guys. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...umbs/00215.JPG Cheers Greg |
