Cibie Oscars period correct for 289 Cobra?
Are Cibie Oscars period correct for fitting (as auxiliaries) onto a 289 Cobra?
Anybody know when they (Oscars) were first produced? Cheers, Glen |
Oscars date to the early 70's I believe.

They definitely go back earlier than early 70s, but not sure how far back.
Ford Australia used Cibie Oscars on the London to Sydney Rally cars in 1968. Here’s KAG-002 (placed 3rd outright). Note the Oscars.... http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/...pstrombiiv.jpg I'm assuming Oscars had been available for some time before that, so they are probably at least 'almost' period-correct ;) Cheers, Glen |
You could install a set of Marchal vintage headlights. Exotic and very cool to those who know what they are!

The auxiliary lighting typically used on the SAI team 289 Cobras was the LUCAS SFT Flame Thrower, Moss Motors as well as other companies offer a reproduction in both lens configurations.

Larry and CompClassics - I agree that Marchal and Lucas would be ideal, but I have a pair of Cibie Oscars that I've had for 40 years and I obviously have much history with these particular examples, so I want to use these on AP2289 IF they are close enough to being period correct or even 'period reminiscent'....and they won't cost me anything :D. They have seen regular use on my '76 Alfa since 1981, and before that on every other car I've owned. If I squint a little, I think they qualify according to my criteria ;)
Cheers, Glen |
Glen, I think you've just answered your own question about whether to use them...
|
Yep, I think so....but I was hoping some knowledgeable person would know when they were first produced
