Lifters

I don't suppose anyone can tell me the seat height of genuine original solid hipo 289 lifters? I'm assuming pushrods were the same length as stock 289.

Thanks chaps

Roger

I don't know the dimensions but the original spec lifters can be purchased here.

They would probably provide you the info you need.

May be better to purchase this book though.

I do have Bob Mannel's excellent book, but even he doesn't go into this much detail. Hard to tell who makes the Branda parts, they're not giving much away.

Roger, What measurements are you looking for: overall length, length from cam bearing surface to push rod bearing surface, or what? I have OEM sets I can measure for you. Push rods for 260/289/289HP with adjustable rocker arms are the same Ford part with 6.825" length. AJ

AJ, yes, cam bearing surface to pushrod bearing surface. It's tricky to measure - I think the best way to do it would be to measure the length of a lifter and pushrod together, then subtract the length of the pushrod.
I have some old TRW VL-48 lifters which work with the stock length pushrod, but I think they may be responsible for my low-ish oil pressure. I was planning on buying an aftermarket set to see if it improves, but Compcams etc. all seem to be taller at 1.95" 'seat height', whatever that means.
The Branda ones could be a possibility but I have to have this motor back together by the end of next week and shipping to the UK won't be quick enough. I guess another tear-down of the intake next month might become necessary.
