What is this car?

Saw this car at my mechanic's shop. He wasn't there to tell me about it, but his assistant says that it's a pretty significant car in the AC/Cobra world. Anyone recognize it? It has an in-line 6-cylinder engine, transverse leaf spring in front.

Looks like an AC Ace.

That would be my guess too, an AC ace. Waiting to here what Mark IV has to say.

I'm wondering if its a Cunningham?
|
It's an AC Ace prototype race car, driven by Bob Jennings. The engine looks to be a Ford 2.6L six from the Ford Zephyr. It was later used in the AC Ace 2.6, the car immediately preceding the Cobra.
Nice find!

That is a 1952 Tojeiro, that one in particular having been built with a Lea-Francis engine (I believe) and later being given a Bristol engine. That car was developed into the Ace, which in turn became something to do with some kind of reptile. Or serpent, I forget which.
Very, very significant car - hate to think what the pricetag would be.

I'll be paying it another visit on Friday and will snap some more detailed photos and try to get more info from it's current owner (he rents the showroom next door to my mechanic). It sure is a sexy little thing!

Something odd Roger. That's not a Bristol engine. I think that's a Zephyr engine.

Yes, it wasn't a Bristol engine, it was an AC engine after the Lea-Francis. That certainly looks like a Ford straight six in there now, presumably for racing, as the Ford motor has more poke than the AC.

I've got to remember that ... "more poke"!
Definitely not a Weller either. Cool no matter what!

It's a standard British engineering term, Larry...

It looks like an AC Ace or Ace-Bristol with a different engine.
