Greasing

Just a quick service question - when greasing leafspring suspension (every 500 miles, it says in the manual), do owners jack up to take the weight off the suspension, or leave the car on the ground?

I would say it should be jacked up for joints that are under weight with the car on the ground.

Are you talking about greasing the steering components, i.e., ball joints, or are you referring to greasing the transverse leaf springs?

Springs and front trunnion/ball joint, principally. I guess jacked up makes most sense, as you say Larry.

Would be a pain to grease them with the car not jacked up.

They're quite easy to get to via my inspection pit, but obviously even easier with the wheels off.

Probably better for the half-shafts too. Getting grease with the rear at full droop extends the shafts.
