Mc Cord surge tank cap

Who Made the Mc Cord surge/expansion tank cap used on 289's? Anyone have any close up photos of a correct/Original One???

I believe it was a "SMCO" (Stant Manufacturing Company) FoMoCo 13# unit. Available in repro.

The same as any stock 1963-64 Fairlane, zinc plated. I am not sure of the rating and I don't have access to the original sample right now.

There was a dress up version that was chromium plated and it is a #14 rated cap.

That are not marked as being Ford products.

+1 for the Stant(R) identification but not FoMoCo(R). I have seen reproductions of the zinc plated and chromium plated versions and neither is 100% just like 1963-64 made assemblies.

Mark's real interest is what did AC Cars get a hold of circa 1967? Was it the 1963-64 version or a later AUTOLITE(R) model?

Ford Radiator Caps

Depending on when manufactured the cap may have had the "FoMoCo" oval logo on one ear. And yes, most likely a 14# cap

Back before most cars had been modified, converted to vintage racers, or "restored" this was the commonly found cap. I don't see any FoMoCo(R) identifcation on the visible side. This is an original cap in use on its extremely original Cobra years ago.

As it turns out it is a "14 pound" design also. The the other common version is the chromium plated version that was supplied as a "COBRA" dress up accessory. Were there other versions? Perhaps.

Ford wise this was B8A-8100-A. There were used on various Fords between 1957 (start of 1958 model year) through about 1965-66. The parts made all those years did not stay exactly alike, example one early version had "B8A" stamped on one ear of the cap.

This is probably as close as you'll get to that now:

Roger, link doesn't work.

If it is the one I'm thinking of, the cap itself is nice. However, the pressure valve is junk and rusts immediately. The central rivet holdind the assembly together is wrong as well. I bought a new 4-eared Stant, drilled out the rivet. Machined a new correct look brass rivet and assembled the new stainless Stant pressure valve to the cap with it. Works great, no rust and looks period. Just wish Drake hadn't cut a major corner in the repop-

I don't know why it's taking you via a business page of some sort, but if you click on the 'continue to CJponyparts' line it'll take you there.
But - points noted about the Drake part. I guess, as ever, you have to choose between something that looks right or something that works.

I wonder what caps the UK cars had? I know the standard Quinton Hazell part for every British sportscar fits fine, but did the cars come from AC with a US cap, or the local product?

For anything but day one exact recommissions, cars that get trailered around and pushed into position for display, use what you prefer. I like to use ‘lift lever to relieve pressure’ caps myself.

You can even go with a period accessory Ford sold under the number C1UU-8100-A.
