does anyone know if the original differential in the 427 cars were made specifically for cobras or were they sourced from some other car, also were they all cast iron?

The diff used in a 427 Cobra is the same as a diff in a 289 Cobra, Iso Griffo, and Aston Martin. They were all cast iron. The Cobra diff is almost identical to the diff used in a Jaguar IRS. The difference is in the mounting bosses. AC Cars used a Jag diff with custom mounts in the AC MKIV. Most of the diff copies are made out of aluminum. Jerry Hawkridge is making one in cast iron.
