Browsing this thread, I have to say (again and again) these High-Tech Cobras are among the most beautiful and well crafted of all Cobra replicas!
|
Buzz, thanks, man. To my (admittedly overly-critical) eye they look as correct as an ERA, and since I first became aware of the existence of ERA kits in the very early 1980s they've been my "gold standard" for replicas. Mine doesn't have the handbuilt glory of Mongoose930's killer competition Cobra tribute, but I do love it. Which I guess is why that front track being a whopping two inches off has been nagging me for the last 12 months, LOL. I'm excited and a little nervous to have the FIA fronts show up from Vintage Wheels...if it still looks funny to me after those go on I'm not sure what I'm going to do, haha.

Congrats on your Hi-Tech, it looks great.
Imo, the Hi-Tech is one of the best recreations out there if not the best. Looking forward to seeing the fia wheels on it. |

Well...they fit :). Now I need to paint the centers white to match the rears, and of course get the tires switched over, but I'm really excited because the difference in the track is very obvious.
Here's the old front wheel and tire--basically flush with the fender lip, and dished to the point where you can't see any part of the hub or spinner: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...99e4eeab_z.jpg Here's the new wheel, sans tire of course but lowered onto a wood block to replicate the wheel/fender relationship. Note that you can see both the end of the hub and the spinner ears: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e34c5226_z.jpg Finally, a side view: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c68548ab_h.jpg |

How about some pics mounted with the tires on? Can’t wait to see it, it’s going to look great!

The change in the offset will add character and realistic look. The wheels should be in a bit and I agree with kevin, like the white.
Super cool and will set the car apart at shows. |

Well, all is right in my (Cobra) world. She looks right to my eye now, other than one hell of a lot of negative camber on the front (due no doubt to the 255-series front tires on those wide wheels that were on the car when I got it). I kinda like the FIA front/GT40 rear combo--it reminds me of pictures from back in the day of some original cars I've seen--but if I decide I've got to have a balanced look swapping the rears for FIAs will be easy. But after over a year I'm finally at peace when I look at the car :D

Looks great. It's the extra details like the FIA wheels mixed with Halibrand rears that really do it (even more so!) :D Enjoy! Glen |

Thanks, guys! We're supposed to have sunny skies and 70 degree F weather this weekend so I think you can guess where I'll be :)
