Cobra license plate frame....real?

Full disclosure.
I do NOT own a Shelby of any kind. I do own a '67 Mustang FB so I'm not a total stranger to classic Fords.

Some years back I was given the ubiquitous Cobra license plate frame.
Its old looking by which I mean it is not shiney or look like a repro...to my eyes anyway. It looks to have been well used/weathered.

So you know the question.
How or is there a way to determine whether its vintage, nay...original?

I've had it mounted on my bike shed wall for the last 10 years and thought maybe it really belonged on a Shelby.

Thanks,
Mike

They never had a frame from the factory did they? ...extra weight.

So I've read.

My question remains.

Ford owns the Cobra trademark so that could be from almost any time...

I was just looking on ebay.

Here's a new one: https://www.ebay.com/i/274599982412?...4aAhMkEALw_wcB

This one is "vintage":

I know. What's a single parent like myself supposed to do during a pandemic anyway?

Maybe google can help?

Here are some ideas:

I have a vintage license plate frame with a good bit of patina that I keep on my Civic.

I think I will keep it. Perhaps someday I will get a nice beige ERA or something else to put it on? ;)

I certainly understand the great commentary between friends here. Its fun.
I do appreciate those that are trying to help. I just thought maybe there might be some markings on the back or other telltale markings that would denote that it truly was a 60's era frame.

well I was going to post some pics but I see this forum is still confined to the pics located at some other host so I'll not go through that.

If no way of determining its era can be noted I guess it will remain on the wall.
Thanks all. Mike

Just from the look of it from a design standpoint, I'd say it looks more like the seventies.

Around here, we are able to discern authenticity purely by osmosis.

Do you think the org. poster (kbmwrs), was maybe looking to sell the license frame to fund his retirement or whatever ;). The saying I believe is "Cut A Fat Hog". SAAC is where the money is, and Real Shelby's. :) TommyRot.

The comment was on the image shown of course. Sorry I did not read every word in the thread.

Yep, hoping he has a one of a kind platinum license plate that Carroll forged himself.
