427 Dipstick
I’m using the Aviad road race pan on my FE build. Did the S/C cars use a dipstick in the stock block location or the dipstick tube on the pan? What’s the most accurate location and part to use?
Thanks Joey |

Searched my pictures and two show the dipstick on the passenger side, opposite of where it would be if it were the block position. Download and zoom in, you'll see the handle. Picture is of CSX3031 FYI, the street cars are showing the dipstick on the drivers side, using the block hole location. Paul |
Passenger side of the block = Oil pan. Drivers side = block. I have a Canton pan with the option of using the oil pan for the dipstick. I don't use it. When I dropped the pan I marked the dip stick full line to be right at the bottom of the windage tray. My 427 with dual oil filters and the Canton pan takes 10 quarts of oil.

Perfect!! That’s exactly what I was looking for! First time I’ve ever noticed the dipstick in that pic of 3278. I’m going to block the factory location and use the pan.
Thanks again for the help. Joey |

Mongoose/ HTM what dipstick and tube did you guys use? I can’t find a straight tube so i didn’t know if you guys just made it out of 3/8” tubing.
I really appreciate all of the help and feedback from you guys. Joey |
Hi Joey,
I honestly can't remember where I got the tube as it was over 8 years ago. I know that Buds Classic Cars has them along with a lot of other great parts: https://www.budsclassiccars.com/catalog/. It could have also been Carl's Ford Parts? I will look in my receipt binder tonight. There are quite a few threads here that discuss this topic in detail. Many have used a Chevy BB tube. |

I used 3/8" o.d. stainless tube that I probably ordered from McMaster-Carr. Aluminum tubing of the same diameter would be fine. The dipstick part # is shown in the photo.

Hi Joey,
I went through my receipts but unfortunately, I could not find anything for the dipstick. |
