CSX 3173 Former Owner; the folks you meet at cars and coffee
Today while at my local cars and coffee in suburban DC, I’m chatting with two gentleman next to a beautifully restored split window corvette, when I learn one of the gentleman used to own CSX 3173 from 1970-72 in the DC area. After doing some research on 3173 history I learned it is a very rare street 427 version with 2x4’s and last sold in 2019 for $2.4M. Wow. When I asked the former owner of 3173 why he sold it in ‘72 , he explained it was simply to finance his college education and get a degree. The stuff you learn and the great people you meet at your local cars and coffee! As I drove away in my replica, he told me to “take good care of my Cobra” and winked. Yeah , I wish , I thought to myself. I never thought I’d meet an original Cobra owner here in my town. Had to share this story.

I had a similar experience at a local British car gathering. I was mentioning, that I would like to get a small block Cobra replica when one of the guys said. "I had an original!" He bought a rack and pinion 289 back in 1970, and drove it around Phoenix for the next few years, and like your guy, he sold it for then good money, to get on with his life. He lamented, that it was the best British car he ever owned, just changed oil a few times, started every time! Cheers, Dennis
