S/C Carpet

Hey all
I notice that CSX 3042, pictured on csxinfo.com, doesn't have any carpet on the rear bulkhead behind the seats. It actually looks like it's upholstered, though very thin.
Are all the S/C's like that or did some have carpet?

S/C's and Comp 427s only had carpet on the floor.
The inner door panels and the rear bulkhead were covered with glued-down vinyl. The doors had no pockets, either.

Hey thanks Ron! That explains it.

Larry:

To amplify on what Ron said, the actual vinyl material used was brand named "Vynhide", made in England, and still available for purists. By the way, the S/C dashes were originally covered in this same material.

Thanks for the info Bud!

Byots, Hopefully the original type is still available. I'm going to do some checking and see what I find.

Doing a search on Vynhide didn't turn up much. I guess all the "Vyn's" have died off, so no more hide!

I did find this for Black Bison: http://www.robbinsautotopco.com/cg_right.html
Going strickly by photo's of 3042, the covering looks grainy and textured, somewhat similar to the Bison.

apparently that Vynhide was used to cover Vox amplifiers in the day. that is where I get all the hits on www.dogpile.com

Carpet, Vinyl Details in S/C and Comp cars

edging - trim vinyl used to finish carpet edges.

1. The "knee" behind the seat, little shelf where the battery sits. Was this carpeted? If so, was each knee part of the floor piece? Was this area edged?

2. Rear wheel arch vinyl - Photos show the bulkhad area, but how about the wheel well arch area? Was this a separate piece, where was the seam? Was it stitched? How does this merge into the carpet?

3. Carpet along the door opening was part of the floor piece and edged along the door opening, this edging extened forward around the cowl hoop and likely along the hidden forward edge. How about the front, along trans, rear?

4. How does the carpet end into the vinyl wheel arch? There is an exposed flange of aluminum riveted here, vinyl, carpet, edged? Vinyl over the carpet? Black electical tape?

Mr. Byots: The only thing replaced in the interior of 3042 was the original carpeting on the driver's and passenger's side floors, and that was because it didn't come up cleanly (it was glued) and the result was threadbare carpeting in those two areas. Everything else in the interior was what it was delivered with.

All:

I did KMP 142 in Vynhide, purchased from Motorsports International back in 2002. I believe they still stock it. Bill or Marge at 619.390.9080

By the way, if anyone wants to see an actual sample of it, I have some leftover pieces. Be happy to send you a small swath for postage. Email me if interested, as always glad to help.

It's kinda tough to tell from the photos on the site, but this stuff looks pretty close. http://www.worlduph.com/vinylJAG.htm

Thanks for the info all!
I'm looking for photo's of original S/C interiors showing the rear bulkhead area. Not many of them around the internet show those areas, but the research is part of the fun! If anyone has any, posting them would be a huge help.
