convertible top studs
 

Are there any drawings available that show the positions of the lift-a-dot studs and the distances between the studs on the original cars?

I mean both the studs for mounting the top and the ones above the dash for the tonneau cover.

Are the ones for the front of the cover in a straigth line or are the outer ones closer to the back of the car? It's really hard to tell from photos.

When I did mine I had the luxury of having a CSX car for refrence at an indoor sales facility nearby. I kept going in and looking and sketching and then I would go home and verify the cockpit was the same dimensions then I made a scale scale sized grid diagram on a piece of note book paper and measured from the rear view mirror to each post. The fellow that owned the car and sales location was watching what I was doing and knew I had been in several times. He finally approached me and asked what I was trying to accomplish. After explaining he helped me tape a piece of string from the mirror to the rear deck for a centerline. I then with his blessing measured from the rear view mirror post to each existing post, and the distance off center and created coordinates. I think I then marked each potnetialpoint (on my car) with a felt tip pen. Then after having obtained the top (Robins) I think it was originally marked where the female portion of the snaps were to be installed. After I was comfortable with the location of both sets of snaps, I installed the posts on the body. I also had to make the recepticles for the metal hoop so that it was located in as close to the original location as possible, previously they were intended to be inserted into the body which I didn't want to do. I too may still have the diagram with measurements. Installing the softtop itself and the posts & snaps was a very time consuming project, 8-10 hours as I recall.

Rick, that's a good story! A CSX car in your neighborhood is definitely a good source for the correct dimensions ;)

I couldn't find anything on the internet, and I don't know of a real Cobra here in my area to take the measurements.

If you can't find an original CSX car,check with ERA,my body had the holes molded in so that should be very close to the original car.ERA bodies have the same dimensions,having been taken from a CSX car.
