Dual four barrels air cleaner(s)
Did the original SC have a single air cleaner or two individual air cleaners?
Thanks, John |
I have only seen dual S&H air cleaners on original Cobras. Anyone else have any comments?

Thanks a lot for the info.

2x4
The Cobra 2x4 was strictly for Shelby GT 500's, and dress up over the counter, catalog etc.

I thought the street vesions had 2x4s with individual air cleaners and the SCs had a single 4bbl medium riser.
Ive since learned that there is one other class of Cobra and that was the C model or Competition model which had Hi Riser heads and a single 4bbl. I think only about a dozen of these cars were made. Say John ( Dbl Ugly) did you have a Hi Tech By DAntonio in Phoenix? |

For some reason, I was under the impression that the SC had a single four and the street cars had the dual fours. Learn something every day here. Great forum.... John |

CSX 3042 is a good example.... http://www.csxinfo.net/web/modules/x...s.php?album=43 |
Right on the Comp and S/C..
..the street cars are a bit less precise, though. The first year datasheet on the 427 street claimed 2x4 as standard equipment...the second year flyer said "2x4 carb", but the detail sheet called out 1x4 as standard equipment. Many of the unmolested 428's have 1x4 original. |
John, I looked at your gallery and I gotta say thats a really good build of the Hi Tech. Mine is yet unfinished. Its probably Hi Techs last alum bodied car. Did you go with the Ford 9" IRS? And if so where did you get it? Thanks Michael

Thanks for the complement. The rear end is a 9" IRS unit from Accurate Machine Products in LA. It's owned by George Petrus. He has Hi Tech suspension components.

Carbs
Comp cars were a single Holley, Most SC's were 2X4"s, with INDIVIDUAL S&H air cleaners.
Street 427's, i.e. 3100 to 3200 were 2X4's with the S&H air cleaners. 3200 to approx. 3300 were 428's, with a single Holley, and large 289 Hipo type air cleaner. My understanding is that from 3300 to the end,427's were once again being installed, possible urban legend ? The oval cast alum 2X4 Cobra air cleaner, that was like the 427 Galaxie, and or Thunderbolt air cleaner was strictly for GT 500, and over the counter applications. Quote:
