AC 289 Hubs
From what I have been able to find out, it appears that the AC 289's used the 289 Cobra spline drive hubs and wheels.
Can anyone confirm if this is correct?
Thanks,
Kevin

That's correct. They came with spline drive 6" wide wire wheels. One could convert to pin drive wheels by changing out the six bolts already in the hubs with pins.

Jim - Didn't the 289 have smaller frnt wheel brgs than the 427 and the AC289 used 427 suspension? I'm under the impression that 289 hubs will not fit on a 427 car, but could be mistaken. Maybe you can just use the 289 bearings with the 289 hub on the 427 axle (??)....

Don't know if you can use the 289 hub with a 427 axle. Makes sense as opposed to AC building a different splined hub for the AC 289. Ned will need to confirm that one.

Drew would be the guy to answer that, but I don't think he monitors this forum....

I have a pair of what is supposed to be AC 289 front hubs. I bought them from a man years ago that had a car he was converting to 427 Cobra specifications I believe. They are odd balls in that they are exterior wise dead ringers for rack and pinion leaf spring chassis car hubs except they use the bolt pattern for pin drive, don't have carter key access holes, and if memory serves they don't have the ridge at the flange. Interior wise the bearings are farther apart. I can't say wether or not the bearing spacing is the same as a 427 Cobra because I haven't measured them for comparison. I was hoping to use them since they were already set for pin drive except for the 0.500 counterbores for the pins but original leaf spring car front axles are too short for them. With pins in them they fit into an original Halibrand wheel for leaf spring cars well.

AC289 hubs
Interesting Dan, so AC289 hubs are a unique animal. Did you already modify those NOS 289 front hubs you purchased?

Since CSX2551's hubs were dangerously modified before I got it, yes.
