Interior Controls
Specifically, the lights, wipers, etc. Were these sourced from Ford, or am I way off base?:confused:

The switches and dash gadgets were all Lucas (UK) parts

The Lucas switches and lights can be had from Finishline accessories.com.
The only drawback is that the bezzles are not all the same. So begging and buying extra parts may be needed to get them to all have the same bezzles. Here is an example using Lucas switches and lights: http://www.primequip.net/images/65%2...%20Cluster.JPG The toggles are mostly 2-position, but one (lights) is 3-position. To protect the Lucas switches from failing, we used relays mounted behind the dash. Hope this helps. |
CSX2201 through CSX2589 street roadsters used mostly Ford supplied (some were regular production items for other Fords) electrical systems with exceptions. Non-Ford parts inlcude: tail light relay, exterior lamp assemblies, tag light, turn signal / horn switch (which was similar to a VW OEM part but not the same), engine cooling fan motor (like a Jaguar unit except opposite rotation), engine fan thermal switch (similar to a Jaguar part but with a different temperature trip point), windshield wiper drive, turn signal flasher relay, turn signal indicator lamps in dash, and heater / demister fan motor. The chassis wiring harness and miscellaneous other bits were built by Ford suppliers and had Ford part numbers. Some of the Stewart Warner instruments were Cobra only and had Ford part numbers. Electrically, with the exception of the Cobra only Stewart Warner bits, these cars are perhaps the easiest to maintain as Ford still services many of the small parts.

We've got to be the only guys who look to take out other branded electrical equipment and install Lucas in our cars. It usually goes the other way. You know the old saying, "Joseph Lucas, Prince of Darkness.":LOL: :3DSMILE:

Thanks for all of the replies. One reason I'm asking is because some of the interior controls look like the ones in a 62 F100 I owned years ago. Had anyone asked me, I would have replied "Lucas", but lately, have been having doubts.:confused: And, I can always count on you guys to point me in the right direction!:3DSMILE:

When I built my 289 slabside (http://www.centechwire.com/catalog/kitcars/index.html) I spent a lot of time researching the dash details. Except for the horn (VW) all the electrical controls are Ford (1960 Fairlane or early Falcon).The heater switch is a Falcon but it seems they cut of the choke cable since there was no heater water valve (I put one in and used the knob control to turn off the water to the heater-nice in the summer).The high beam and charge indicator light are Ford,although I think the turn signal indicators might be Lucas. The guages are SW,similar to the current "Deluxe" style.Of course the clock is from a 62 Galaxie. The biggest difference in the guages is the lettering on the tach and speedo-the font is bolder.I elected to overlook this (altho they can still be found at a price) to have new guages. The glove box knob and latch I turned out on my lathe from a template I made from a friends original car. It's funny that when I started looking into all of this this people would say that "they were all different-Shelby put in whatever happened to be available at the time". I quickly interpreted this to mean they didn't know altho I'm sure that happened to a couple cars. I have seen at least 10 American 289 slabsides (including one in my small hometown that the owner bought new in 65) and they are all identical).
