Fresh Air vent controls

Looking for pics of where the fresh air vent controls are mounted in the dash on both sides.

mickmate 02-02-2008 04:40 AM

Hi Morgan, that's the controls in the ends of the dash you're looking for?

lamaluv 02-02-2008 08:40 AM

Morgan if you check my photo album there are a couple of pictures of both the street and S/C dash.

Hey Dick,
I also wouldn't mind a peek I can't seem to find your album, can you post them?

Also not sure if there is a housing that is needed for the grill vents up front to attach to flex tube runs...??

CSX3282 Dash Shot

Go Here: 427 Cobra Dash Photo You can see the vent knob in the far left (look through the wheel) and it is more fully described on the owner's site.

Thanks Patrick for the effort of posting the picture.

The vents and controls on CSX4766 are complete. I got a dash picture out of a Shelby book that shows the pull control located about 1.5" away in line with the ignition switch.

I found out after I made the first hole on the drives side that Kirkham places it in the same spot.

I will post pictures of what I did this week. Both sides.

RedCSX1 02-12-2008 04:41 PM

Well I managed to install both vents over the past week along with the controls. I found a picture of the controls in a Shelby book and went based off of that picture. The next day Joe Weight from Kirkham sent me some pictures of the dash vent contol knob. Which is real close to where I mounted the control in my dash on both sides. I will continue to post picture of the complete set up as I get it install. I ordered some Hi temp Hose which will be installed in the next few weeks.

I was searching on the subject of fresh air vent knobs and came across this thread. I installed my dash and the fresh air vents and controls. But it seems that no matter how I orient the end of the control wire on the circular post that controls the flap, the knobs aren't straight. That is, the writing on the knobs isn't vertical. Each knob is at a random angle. The rest of the dash looks good so I'd really like to get this right. I fooled around with this for probably 2 hrs, and I asked Bob at ERA, but he didn't really have any suggestions. He did add that the knobs are glued onto the wire, so it's not just a matter of loosening a set screw and rotating. Anyone else have this problem, or have any ideas?

Is the cable held in place on the dash by a nut that you could tighten, holding the knob in the correct position?

I went out and looked at mine this morning. One is straight, the other is at like a 45 degree angle. In seven years I have never looked at them hard, nor noticed it. Trust me, this is not something you should dwell on.

That's one of the good things about getting old. I can't see well enough to tell if the lettering on the knobs is upside down or crooked on my car.

Patience

The curvature of the bowden cable will cause the knob to twist. You can loosen the connection at the air valve and then twist the knob in the direction you need, then retighten the connection. You may have to "over-correct" a little bit to compensate for the twist that is induced by the cables curve.
