289 MKII & FIA Wheel Widths and Tire Sizes
I have a few questions regarding wheel widths and tire sizes that were originally offered on the 1963 MK II Cobras & wheel widths and tire sizes the 289 FIA cars:
- On the 1963 MK II - What width Halibrand style wheels were used front and rear and what size tires were typically used? - On the 1963 MK II - What width wire wheels were used front and rear and what size tires were typically used? - On the 289 FIA cars - Width of front and rear wheels and respective tire sizes. - The last question (which might be deemed questionable by some) ... were any 'vintage' Cobras in the 1960's offered or converted over to bolt on wheels? I suspect the answer is 'none', just curious. Look forward to your answers. Thanks. Tim B. |
It seems that the original fia`s had 6.5 " front and 8.5" rear. Can`t seem to find it documented but this from the manufacturers of magnesium fia wheels.
What I would like to know is the fia`s track widths. ie centre of tyre to centre of tyre both front and rear. Ross |
There was a one CSX2476 which had pin drive fronts with pin drive/bolt on rears. Very unique, I never heard of a pin drive car becoming full bolt on?

The "Dragon Snakes" had Bolt on Tork Thrust wheels.

Tim,
Ross is correct. The wheel sizes on the 289 FIA/USRRC cars are 6.5 and 8.5 inches. The tires sizes are 6.00x15 and 7.00x15 for Goodyear racing tires and 25.85x15 and 26.95x15 Hoosiers. Ross, I don't know the track width off the top of my head but I will try to measure that for you in the next few days and get back to you. |
Would be much appreciated 350. Off what car would the measurement come?

Ross,
The measurements would come from the car pictured. It is CSX 2514. It was an independent campaigned USRRC Cobra. A friend owns it. |
Tim, as far as the 289 mk2`s are concerned you should mail Trevor Legate. As These were mostly found in Europe you might also post on the English cobra sites.

To All,
