AC vs Halibrand spinners

I am working on a car that has Halibrand spinners and adaptors that allow for use of 5 lug Ford wheels. I was thinking about changing over the standard AC 2 ear spinners, but they do seem to thread on more than about 1/2 of a thread before binding up, while the Halibrands thread on fine. I used the AC spinners before on an Ace so I know they are fine, but now wonder whether Halibrand spinners have different threads than original AC versions. Can anyone provide some insight?

There different or maybe you started off cross threaded?

A dumb question as I am sure that you have already checked this, but are the hubs that you are trying to put them on exactly the same size? Just being a fraction of an inch would cause it to not go on more than about a half thread, same as having a different thread pattern. Maybe a finner thread or something like that.

I have tried many times and am sure they are not going on cross threaded, I'm also sure I am trying the correct side spinner to match the hub in case that comes up in anyones mind.

I have not checked the diamater and in eyballing the threads, they look to have the same pitch. I'll try measuring the diameter and thread pitch today, but am wondering if the thread profile might be different. I have heard in the past that British threads use different angles in their thread profiles, but not sure if that is coming into play here.

Pitch is 8 TPI, which you can count between one inch of your open vernier on the adapter.
The hub diameter is a tricky one, don't know it out of my head.

Also, you may not be able to measure (count) inside the 2-ear spinner

Do they actually have the same taper as the 3-ear ones?
If I remember correctly, the wire wheels are centered differently.

It would be pure luck that the threads are the same. The wire wheel hubs were probably made by Dunlop/Rudge, the pin-drives by Halibrand.

Aren't the AC wheels metric thread?

I measured today and found both spinners and the hub are 8TPI. I also measured the ID of both spinners (the major diamteer of the female threads) and found the Halibrands were 2.190" and the AC spinners are 2.205" so it looks like the diamater is off a bit and Ron hit it on the head. I am surprised that the thread diameters would not have been standardized for 8TPI, but it is what it is. The reason I was trying to put the AC spinners on the car was because I was missing 1 of the halibrands and was just trying to put the wheels on the car so I can move it around. I guess I am now looking for 1 LH halibrand spinner if anyone has a spare. Condition is unimportant (broken ears OK) as it will only be temporary. Otherwise, I'll have to try and find 4 hubs (and probably some bearings etc) so I can use the AC versions.
Dom, You are correct about the taper being different between the spinners, but since I am only looking for something to hold the wheels on while I pushed it around the garage, I wasn't too concerned about that.
