Players Run - Road Rally from Los Angeles to Miami
There's going to be held a road rally from Los Angeles to Miami in February 2003: the Players Run. The Players Run is held between 15th February 2003 - 22nd February 2003. We even have celebs (for those who care).
You find further information about the Players Run on www.playersrun.net For the European fellas: Shipping the cars from Europe to Los Angeles and back from Miami to Europe is going to be organized. After putting the stickers of the Players Run and our sponsors on your car you are allowed to put stickers of your company on the car, too! One of the specials: Players Run has already 10% of the total tour closed by police for full speed driving and you will have the opportunity to drive on a few major US tracks. Have you ever thought about driving with your supercar as fast as you want on an US freeway? That'll be a blast! We are also producing a coverage about the Players Run which will be sold to a TV station. Every car will be shown with your stickers in that special. Great advertisment for your company! Besides we're going to produce a Players Run DVD. Isn't that a great benefit participating in the Players Run? Players will actually finish the mission in another country (but same day). Entry fee is US $ 7500.- (for one car with 2 persons, so you can share the costs) Players Run is an 'by invitation only' event. Limit of cars is 100. Less than 50 spots left ... So just fill out the online application form: www.playersrun.net |
Hope these guys are legit, but...
Guys,
I would be very careful about this event. I was unable to establish any credibility links to this event. Such as a registered corporation, a licensed promoter or even a celebrity endorsement. Their site gives no such info. They claim to be a supporters of make a wish foundation but they claim that they never heard of the Players Run. I just think that an event of this magnitude would have their ducks in a row before launching any type of advertising. I have notified the DOT of several states and they are investigating the claims on the Players Run site. Also they are forwarding this information to the Attorney Generals office to determine if there are any improprieties. They also will inform me asap as to the outcome of their investigation. If these folks are legit then they should have nothing to worry about. If they are, then I will do everything I can to help them promote the event. I believe in childrens charities and will do what I can to help but if the reverse is true then you better be ready to face the law. After all that's the least I can do as a 23yr veteran police officer. Hersh:) |
Way to go Hersh! As you said, no reason to worry if they are legit. I know it's a sad fact, but one must look carefully at "charities" today.

Hirsch..
How about a run to DVSFIII? |
Nw you're talkin' Bony..
I'll be doing that every year until I have no car or there is no Flings.:3DSMILE: Which ever comes first.. You are correct Mongoose, It's not that difficult to produce credentials whether it be here in an open forum or to the DA. I did recieve a private message from the organizer named Markus. He states that by calling him that he could clear up all my questions. It's amazing to me that he can't or won't post his business credentials or any affiliations with a promotions group. If he needs an example as to how the system works all one has to do is look at the Pike's Peak Hill Climb site. Any and all info is provided and they are happy to give any and all pertenant information about their organization. http://www.ppihc.com/index1.htm? Hersh:) |
Hey Hersh, did he start out with "I only do this as a hobby. I'm really a Prince from Nigeria......"
Ron |
Hersh,
Thanks buddy. I smell a decaying rat here.%/ |
All we need is the name of the jurisdictions that have agreed to close highways for high speed portion of the ride, and I will call the police chief or the commander, if it happens to be the Highway patrol and get a Yeah or a Neah!
AirmanGermany, can you provide me with such information before folks in hee think this may be a crank post? TURK |
You only need to phone or email Markus Lex (US Command of the Players Run):
markus@playersrun.com phone: 303 549 3249 He can answer all your questions. We have nothing to fear! |
I have talked to several of the states that this so called run would have to pass through. All the DOT's ,which must be notified of any road closures of any kind, must be notified. They have assured me that no such company or organization with that name has permission to use the taxpayers highway system in that reguard. They would have to supply Fire and medical vehicles along a course of that length. That would cost an unbelievable amount. They would also have to have every vehicle inspected by a reputable racing group as to the safety of each vehicle.
I will follow up my call to the District Attorneys office Monday. They should have something by then. So far we know that these guys are operating out of Denver. The other forums are also have posts from these guys. http://www.cobraforum.com/yabbse/ind...;threadid=8011 It sounds to me like they are trying to pull this thing off with OPM. I really think they don't have a clue as to how involved an event like this is formed. You would be one ragged person after seven days on the road with high speed driving and parties in the evening and pay over seven grand for the privledge:confused: Hersh:) |
We know that cars has to be inspected before starting on a closed road. We also know that ambulances etc. have to be there.
Why don't you phone or email Markus Lex (US Command of the Players Run) ? markus@playersrun.com phone: 303 549 3249 He can answer all your questions. By the way, it would also be much more helpful for the police etc. if you ask Markus first. Then you know that Players Run has legal road closures and also your other questions would be answered. |
This Sounds Familiar ....
I'll have to look it up, but rercently one of the big car magazines had a write up of a coast-to-coast run that sounds alot like thi one, including the $7,500 entry fee.
That run was done "Cannonball" style -lots of tickets and jail. Brock Yates made a passing comment abouit it in his column in Car and Driver. Sounds like the old, original Cannonball without Brock, but with euro-trash and much advanced 2003 police capabilities! |
Found it
September 2002 issue of Sprots Car International.
Sounds like the Gumball 3000 ..... Look for the article titled: Hello Officer ....160 cars, six days, 2800 miles, 700 speeding tickets, and $100,000 in fines .... Hersh is right. No way, no how are these guys going to get the roads officially closed! Here's the best quote from an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Offioer in the article: "This 'ere's the big U.S. of A. boy, and you European sons-of-*****es ain't welcome here." Driving fast in this ciountry requires discretion. Unless of course, you're from someplace else. In that case, air feight your car here, drive as fast as you can, pay the fines, and have your home-country license unscathed. The American en6thusiasts will be dealing with the fallout! |

Airman Germany,
Simple Question...... Why, on all the websites where the Players Run info has been posted, folks ask the simplest questions about the event and either you or someone else says..."Phone Markus". Why not tell Markus to get off his a$$ and post all the info???? Is it because there is noneor because it would then become pertinent material or evidence when those folks who wasted $7K then try to sue this outfit???? I have cruised all the internet sites that this run has been posted on and no one...I mean no one, has any info. I hate the fact that they claim to give $1000 per car to Make A Wish but will then give more money ($1500) to folks directing entrants to the event. Also celebrities run for free (wha???)...how about some of those celebrities names???? I abhor folks that use charities names and then rip them off, giving a tiny percentage to them...is that the case here??? |
This is a scam, the krauts english is to good for posting this message.
