Two Big Car events this year.
We know SAAC is holding their convention in August at Thunderbolt Raceway in NJ. And Team Shelby has joined the Mid America Ford Performance club for a June event.
So which event are you going to attend? Maybe both or maybe neither one |
Roger;
Have not decided as of yet....Mid America is "only" a 10 hour drive for me and while I have gone in the past and have had a blast, I don't like Hallett (the road course track).......it is almost an hour from the hotel and is an old track in very desperate need of a re-paving job.....Last time on it, I spent as much time dodging potholes and patches as trying to drive the correct line!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the other hand, the new track in your neck of the woods is about a 22 hour drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but being a new track it should be great to run on and the folks up in that neck of the woods are great to hang around with (re: VIR) I have considered going without my car, but I know I would not enjoy the event nearly as much,especially when I see the Vintage cars hit the track!!!!!!!:( :( :CRY: :CRY: There will probably be a dozen or more folks from my area and at least 6 cars going to Mid America..not counting the Texas bunch (great guys and gals also)...as for the SAAC event, there are three or four couples wanting to go and three cars, not counting myself...... BTW: the open track/Vintage race at Mid America is run a lot better than the same at SAAC!!!!!!! The other consideration is my wife will be starting a new job around the first of the year and she may or may not have any vacation time by august, and if I go, she will definetly want to come!!!!!!!! I'll decide sometime in Feb. or March as I will only be attending one of the two events.........don't have any rich relatives that I know of fixin to leave me any money, so only one "away" event this year........... I'm definately going to Hallett. What a great time!

Dave, you know where the Crankoids will be next August. I may wait until Sunday for the open track sessions. Let the nubies do their tours Friday and Sat. and maybe by Sunday most will be gone and the track will be almost MT. Since we are so close we don't have to worry about the long tow home and we can stay to the very end. We won't have a party house like we did at VIR but we will think of some way to celebrate.:D
RD Hmmm very few votes maybe nobody here at CC are convention goers. |
SAAC33
I hope to have a caravan of Mustangs and Cobras taking the ride down with me. Looking forward to the Contemporary Classics gathering. Will be nice to have a group together, fairly rare to gather as far as replicas go. |
Roger;
First choice is SAAC.........but, I'm not real excited about a 22+ hour tow across the country...now,if I'm allowed to run the Vintage Race, then that's a different story..... At VIR, I had no plans to run the Vintage Race and did not even try to register for it, but was told when I got there, if I could show them a current SVRA comp license, they would let me run it, natually I don't have an SVRA comp license...and they did not honor the one I have from the track down here in La......After all the stuff with CS/SAAC cools down, I'll talk with Mr. Howard or Kopec and see what they say.............. No party house this year????:( :( :( ......we can do a mean BBQ in the hotel parking lot till they throw us out!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D They let us do that in Pensecola and Tulsa as long as we kept the noise down to a small roar.......................Johnny Mac may have to leave the bull horn home or at least at the track!!!!!!!;) ;) ;) :LOL: :LOL: :D :D David |

I'm sure you'll have a great event on the west coast, but 36+ hour tow for me is "just" a little too much.....;) ;) ;) :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: David |

Roger and David,
I have to go to Hallett because it is in my backyard but I would love to go to the SAAC Event for sure. Just can't afford it this year (re-building my engine). By the way David Hallett has re-paved and sealed the track but the pits are still in need of some attention. The track is spending money on new structures, etc but not where I think it needs to be spent. Clois |
