Gumb-ALS Rally, Mass
This is a Run what ya brung (Cobras are not required, drive the Van the Sedan or the Family Truckster it doesn't matter), Rain, or Shine benefit event, so prepare accordingly. This is our 2nd Gumb-ASL Rally. We look foward to seeing you there!!!
What is a Gumb-ALS Rally: Gumb-ALS Rally is a Charitable Fun Rally to benefit Muscular Dystrophy. All proceeds will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Division, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The Rally staging area is the Tekoa County Club in Westfield Mass. A drivers meeting will be held before the start of the Rally. At the starting line each entry will receive the Rally directions and a list of questions that must be answered by finding clues while following the Rally route, the answers must be recorded on the Rally Directions. This necessitates a Co Pilot for safe participation. Contestants will be sent off at different intervals. When successfully completed the Rally directions will bring all contestants to a top secret exotic location. (well, exotic is a relative term) At this location the participants will get a 2nd set of directions that will return them back to the Tekoa Country Club for lunch and a raffle (Craftman Tools has again step up to the plate and supplied some very nice Raffle prizes). Last year Craftsman Tools donated a complete 215 piece Tool set, and 5 Limited Edition, Numbered, 6 piece Titanium Plated Laser etched Socket Sets complete in a Maple presentation box's . This year we are also looking at prehaps 2 more major Tool Manufactures contributing to the Raffle Pool as well. The answers that were recorded during the entire Rally will be scored and a winner decided. In the event of a tie, the Rallyist that documents the closest to the actual predetermined mileage is the winner. Contestants must obey all rules of the road while participating. Trophies will be awarded to the Top 3 Finishers. Registration Fee: Pre-Registration ends Sept 5th (Registrations will be accepted after Sept 5th, but we do need lead time for food preparation ) $60.00 enters one Driver and one Navigator; any additional passengers are $15.00 The Registration Fee includes a Cookout with Hamburgers, Bratwurst w/ Peppers & Onions, Buffalo Wings, Macaroni Salad, Potato Salad, Chips, Soda and event shirt for driver and navigator Where: Tekoa County Club, 459 Russell Road (Route 20) Westfield MA. WHAT date is the rally being held? I assume its after Sept 5th and sometime before the snow flies. |
ALS - Rally
This event was a blast last year. Good time had by all! Great weather, food and fun.
About 12 cobras. The date is the 27th of Sept. 2008 Hope to see you there!:) Macobra |
Sorry about the oversight on the date guys. It was in the Header of the document that I cut and pasted, but apparently it didn't make to the clipboard so it did not paste. The error has been corrected in the original post.
MACOBRA is correct.... The Gumb-ALS Rally Date is September 27th 2008. This is just a fun event, no timing, no pressure, just out for a weekend drive to answer some questions on some nice Western Mass. Secondary/Rural roads, buy some Raffle Tickets, and win some great prizes, enjoy a picnic type buffet, and to help out a worthy cause. In the event of a tie, the Rallyist that documents the closest to The Actual Predetermined Mileage is the Winner. Just to clarify what "Predetermined Mileage" means: the predetermined mileage is not GPS based, it is based on the odometer of one of our prerunner vehicles, so while you may have the actual mileage to the 10th of a mile by using GPS that does not mean that a GPS will get you to be the closest to the predetermined mileage for the Tie Breaker. While GPS is "OK" to use it really has no actual advantage. Our goal here is to allow everyone to participate on an even playing field, and have fun. We hope to see you there. |
There is ONLY alittle more than a week left until the end of registration on September 20th (although if you contact us after the 20th and say you would like to attend we will not turn anyone away the day of the event, but as a courtesy to the Country Club it would be nice to have a accurate head count a week in advance). For those that have aready sent in your registration...Thanks very much. For those that haven't you still have time. Send in your checks and make sure to note that it is an “ALS Contribution” for Tax deduction purposes. We've got a very nice Route this year. We can't wait to meet everyone. Hope to see you there.

What a difference a couple of days can make....it looks like we will at least double last years attendance. Keep them coming!!!! There is less than a week left until the 20th.
We have even recieved some very generous donations for people that will NOT even be able to attend the Rally...To those people, thanks very much, your support is greatly appreciated, and we hope to see you next year. We will have some "Classic" 2007 Gumb-ALS Rally T Shirts in various sizes available for sale on the 27th for those that didn't make it to the 2007 Rally (you know you need one)....and of course there will be Raffle tickets on sale for some great prizes donated by Craftsman Tools, and Lenox Tools. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90497 |
For all of you guys that are coming to the Gumb-ALS Rally....Here a tip. The people that participated last year found a cheap clip board to write on was invaluable when trying to write down the Rally answers .
