Ford 9"
Anyone using a Ford 9" with 4-link? Waht are you using to control lateral (side-to-side) movement.

9" with 4 link here. Not using anything, and have been giving it some thought!
A single panhard bar or a double "pivoting" panhard bar? When I get ready to do it a "double pivoting" panhard bar is the way I would like to go. This will keep the rear suspension 100% straight as it moves up and down. A single panhard has a tendency to "push" or "bind" the rear end as it travels through it's "arc". However, even a SINGLE bar is better than NO bar! The car handles really well and I'm concentrating on other areas at this time (thinking "spool" for the rear, super charger for the motor, Hoosier road race slicks, etc). Ernie |
Mine is a triangulated 4-link and the only movement is where there is give in the polyurethane bushings. Handles very well and predictably. Heim joints would get rid of the small movement there is, but I think ride 'quality' would suffer.
Ernie, talk to DV about the differential/spool thing. |
I did follow the thread carefully on the various options for a third member. DV's input was excellent. I'm still debating, but I think in my case I will probably go with a "spool". That being based on JBL's thoughts and my driving techniques. I use "throttle over steer" a lot and have broken a LOT of "posi units".
I thought about heim joints, I thnk I will stick with the poly bushings. Why? Some "give" is better than "solid" mounting points? Ride quality is not a high priority, but I still consider ALL factors. The car ride height is pretty low, it corners really flat (BIG sway bars, soft springs) so not sure I need anything more yet. Venom - I'm using Mumford bars. I don't have a photo, but last time I looked at Superformance's website they had photos of the Mumford in their S1 Lotus copy.

I'm using a triangulated 4-link with a double pivot pan-hard bar.
Pan-hard bar was purchased from Summit ( part # CEE-2037 ) |
"Mumford" bar? Ha ha, I got to look that one up! Is that "aussie" talk for a panhard bar?
