If I was going to buy one I would research various sources to find out what numbers to look for. There have been such threads posted here at Club Cobra for instance.

The NASCAR motors didn't have a specific number that would identify them right off. It would be more like a "series" of numbers of the various parts that make up the "package". All the "good stuff" would be there!

Also being a NASCAR engine the chances of the virgin block being a "good" block are increased. My thinking there is a little extra time would be spent in CHOOSING that block for it's "destiny" at the factory? Not all of the original 427 blocks were "good". There were some "flaws" and a faily high percentage of them were "bad" right from the factory but shipped out anyway.

Buying a "used" block today is a gamble at best. Many of them available won't be "worthy" of a rebuild. Yours being a "virgin" block increases the odds a lot, but it will still need to be checked out carefully by a machinist.

As to value? Tough call, it's kind of like buying an expensive "art" piece. It may be worth BIG money,,,,,,,or not. Heck, I don't know!

I think the only way to decode a "NASCAR" block ,is with the paint swatches on the block , the rods and crank can be identified through casting #'s as they are distinct from all other s/o cranks and rods.............I dont know about the heads.

Damn, don't you think some of you guys are being a bit harsh on this new guy? Maybe what would be beneficial here is a little more time spent helping to educate him, and less time calling him a liar and insinuating that he's some kind of con-artist

Lots of folks aren't the Ford/Cobra geniuses who regularly frequent these boards and immediately flame anybody who isn't in their clique.

It could be that he is merely representing the engine as it was represented to him, so why not give him a lot more info, and a lot less flame???

Go to ebay and do a 'completed items' search, this will give you a pretty good idea of the value of the individual items.

I don't think we are being too hard on him.

He's representing himself as an expert, not a noob:

He could have put an end to this early by documenting his claims on the item he's posted for sale (he is asking $25 friggin grand, someone’s going to want proof eventually for that kind of scratch, right?). Otherwise, I think we can have a little fun at his expense.

Look, I'm not saying he's full of crap, but I have insinuated it pretty hard :). If he turns out to be ligit I'll be the first one to say I'm wrong, however, I smell the distinct, pungent odor of cow dookey.

I think the evaluation of the motor has been fair and up-front. Good chance it is in fact a NASCAR engine. How could you prove that to a prospective buyer? The motor IS worth a ton of money, NASCAR or not, it would be prudent to learn as much about it as possible.

Is it worth 25K? Well,,,,,,,there could be room for some "flames" over that amount. Not from me, I don't know about "values". BUT that is a BIG asking price and it's bound to draw some fire. Better to discuss it here and now than stutter and stammer when a "real" buyer shows up.

No intended flames from me, just facts as I understand them (and I COULD be wrong)!

It's a serious proposal, the sale of this motor, it deserves some serious attention (good or bad).

No way I would "part" this motor out! If it is indeed a NASCAR motor and there is some to verify that it is worth far more as a complete unit than it will ever bring in pieces. The KEY is how to PROVE what you got (not to me, heck I believe you, "cool"). :LOL:

hmmmm, where do i start, well firstly i have not been here for a day or two and was stunned by some of the remarks that were made, when i came here tonight. EXCALIBER, you need to check yourself. to insult and call a person a liar,a person whom you know nothing about, and a newbie on top of that is a shame and disgrace. whatever happened to kindness? or is it a attribute you don't possess? If you worked for me you would be history. I don't know what position you hold here at this forum but you need to be replaced. I am a talented professional, and my works speak for themself. I have much to offer any club i participate in. I build cobra's nicer than most you've seen. I have sent picture's of my cobra, my mustang and the 427fe. you decide and give me a fair assesment of my talent. the cobra i built and designed the layout of the car. the motor in the mustang i built and did the port work myself, also the layout of that car. the 427fe, only had the three picture's, head's and intake are just sitting on block for display purpose's. glad i was able to find them or no telling what kind of torching i would have taken. have all part #,s too, although i am not going too waste the time at this point to post them after the verbal lashing, you have the photo's. i would like to see a photo of your cobra, did you build it or buy it, i will not let myself assume as you would and say he probably bought it. I am sending the photo's to cobra@foothill.net. could not find another way to send them. the e-mails will be titled mystery Nascar 427 from satal. oh by the way, it would be nice to have an easier way to get to the forums, i don't see it on the homepage, should be a link there, if i missed it i would like to know where it is.

My comments about a 427 SO are directed to all as basic information. And that still holds true.

When someone SAYS they got a 427 NASCAR, you better ask for proof. If they got it, fine, if they don't,,,,smile, say "cool" and RUN!

EDIT: after rereading the whole thread I realised you may not have directed that at the gentleman selling the motor. On a first read it sure sounds that way though. One of the disadvantages of faceless communication.

To the man with the motor: click on your camera icon and go to your gallery. Once there you can follow the instructions to upload your photos. I hope the motor turns out to be the real deal - virgin S.O.'s are a rare find nowadays.

I sent my proof last night. I tried to upload through the forum, but the files were too large. I am sure a moderator can post them. I too am like you EX, i don't give a ---- either, I know what I have and even if it is not a nascar motor does'nt really matter, you are not a potential buyer and any buyer, I am sure would come and inspect the motor before buying. I would not spend $ 25,000 for a motor I have never seen. you are familar with most cobra sites, tell me where else can you find a virgin 427 with all original parts, nascar or not ? and where is the picture of your cobra EX, typical blue with white stripes, very creative on your behalf. if they cannot post the photo's from the e-mails I sent, let me know another way to send them.

You can be VERY creative no matter what color you choose,however,painting your car Mary Kay pink does not make you a creative master car builder?? Sometimes it's better to think fast and type slow.

okay,no more bashing from me, did not mean to insult all cobra owners with blue cars, it was more directed at EX, I did find his pictures and I admit I was wrong, his is blue with grey stripes. will be taking more close up's of the motor today, will post later.

I uploaded a photo of my car, but it does'nt show. I sent them e-mail also, would like to get them posted as to end all speculation. how else can i send them ? I think the files are too large, but could not reduce them to a size that would allow an upload.

wrong also, I am not from factory five and my car is a classic roadster kit, one of the finest kits, only one i've seen with square cut doors, adds a touch of elegance. most kits i'v seen have the round doors. factory five cars are for the do it yourself market, I am a builder and use upscale kits and customize them. I will admit that I had problems with getting some of the parts, but have made my own mod's to eliminate the problems of the slow coming parts. make your comments after you have seen my work, now you have something tangible to base your assumptions on.
