I will tell you a few words about the car..
First of all the car is fully restored and looks just like in the
pictures. It is in imaculate condition and has no schr! ach on and hasn't
been involved in any accident.
The motor runs very well. This is a clasic car that has a lot of the
original parts and thr tire! s are almost new.
The title is clear ,it is not a salvage one.
The car belongs to my brother. He died two weeks ago in a bike
accident.
The car is now in Portugal as my brother lived there.I am now here as i
took care of the funerals.
Because i can't carry all his things back home i am selling them.
I am willing to sell it and shipp it to any of the UE countries or to
US.I will not ship to any African,Asian or Eastern European countries.
I know that the price is low but i have no use for the car and I want
to get back home as soon as i sell it.
I want t! o sell the car asap so I am willing to pay the shi! pping
fees nomatter of the location.
I require a deposit of 3000USD, with the balance when the car arrive at
your shipping door.
The total price i hope to sell this car is 15,300 US! D
I will shipp using KLM 3-5 days, by plane to the nearest airport. From
there a truck will bring the car at your door.
The money is a reservation f! or the car.
First one who makes the deposit will be the buyer.I need the deposit to be

I wonder if this is the same guy that just got caught and is now being charged for taking deposits and attempting to sell cars that he did not own - on eBay. On the news last night... The story was the seller was asking purchasers to wire money to his account for the deposit.

It seems eBay and Law enforcement are catching up and starting to nail these guys one at a time.

clayfoushee 04-06-2004 09:17 AM

Duane,

Wow, that's great news! I do know one of the scammers was turned over to the FBI a couple of weeks ago by a member here. Where did you see that, I'd like to see the story?

Dan Semko 04-06-2004 08:03 PM

:D

Excaliber 04-06-2004 08:32 PM

I do recall "XXX" was on one of these guys like white on rice.

In fact THAT guy e-mailed me practically begging me for the Web Site where we were "talking about him". I told him only that there WAS a web site dedicated solely to tracking down scammers like him and putting them away.

The last e-mail I got from him "suggested" there was some "price" he would like to pay me for the information. I responded by asking him to state clearly just WHAT he was asking for and at what price. Never heard from him again........

Ernie

Edited for Dans protection. :D

clayfoushee 04-06-2004 09:03 PM

Yes, I know Ernie, but I wasn't going to name names for privacy reasons. I know a lot of people have been working on this.........;)

decooney 04-06-2004 09:08 PM

Clay,
It was on local TV News. Just found this link for your reference. Have no clue if its related to the guy selling Cobras on eBay or not. ;)

http://www.pressdemocrat.com/local/news/06ebay_a1.html

Excaliber 04-06-2004 09:21 PM

The guy that was arrested in the above case did NOT show an e-bay history. THAT is significant because ALL of the most recent "scammers" we have dealt with here had stolen e-bay ID's and thus an excellent e-bay history.

Those guys who made a deal outside of e-bay I have little sympathy for, they "robbed" e-bay. A thief, small or large, is still a thief.

Ernie

clayfoushee 04-06-2004 09:29 PM

Duane,

Thanks for the link. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the scammer ring behind the latest series of e-bay Cobra frauds is actually HQed in this country and just playing dumb, with the "dead relative, doesn't speak good English game." They're also very good about constantly changing their ISP locators, so they're likely not as stupid as some here would like to believe. I would bet this is not an individual, but a ring of identify theft/internet scammers.

It also wouldn't surprise me a bit if the ring is monitoring this site. The tactics suddenly changed as soon as there was a lot of traffic here about the "pre-approved bidder" format.

The story also revealed the "loopholes" in E-bay's "buyer protection plan," which most people don't seem to know about. If you correspond by e-mail and arrange a wire transfer, you're not protected because it is outside the auction format.

Dan Semko 04-07-2004 06:07 AM

Hey Ernie,
Did you hear the one about the guy who bought the $35k ERA?
Who said you don't have class?;)

Excaliber 04-07-2004 08:23 AM

Like the off line e-bay buyers I sent big money to a guy I'd never met for a car I'd never seen. Very risky, NO insurance and something I would not recommend to anybody. I was prepared to accept the potential loss, waiting for confirmation as to wether the deal was good or bad was a nightmare! The buyer before me was not willing to accept the risk, he being a wise man. I could have been the "fool" very easily. Those that bought behind e-bays back were fools.

But hey,,,, I guess thats why they call me, :D

sgianino 04-07-2004 08:35 AM

Part 2....Im having to much fun with this guy

Here is the latest e-mail from Mr Camaro........he mentions the title is in a safe place and cant give me a copy .......read on and laugh.

Hello there,
I have a asking , please dont ask me copys of the title.I will
have to get
the title from my bank because me and my wife we have considered
that the
title of the car is a important paper and put it in the seif.
Please let me know if you are interested to close a deal whit me
in 24 if you agree I will send to you all the details for payment and
delivery.I I do not want you to give you this info because a friend of mine
had many problems after he gave this info to another member. He gave to
thatman the VIN # and copy of the title and ...no emails from that man.
After 2 weeks people called him to ask him about the item. That man did
some fraud listings and to let bidders think that he is serious he
gave them the VIN and scanned copys with the Tiltle .People called my friend
and found out that that auction was not real. One day the police come to my
friend because a man was ! ripped by that person via PayPal.
I hope you will understand me.
Thanks

So Shannon , I await a call or e-mail from your wife today for the shipping
details and a copy of the TITLE.As soon as those items are received i will
send you your deposit.

Dan Semko 04-07-2004 09:46 AM

My brother Dave is heavy into Camaros and Street Rods. He's also been playing with this guy with similar results. Sometimes it's like a cat playing with a field mouse, tossing it around and playing before the final bite!

Ernie, for as much ribbing as Allan provided with your ERA deal along with copious amounts of Gashole contributions, your stomach should be the poster child for Prilosec. I really did appreciate Allan swapping out the carb before he shipped the car. What a buddy.

Excaliber 04-07-2004 09:48 AM

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the other risk factors in my deal.

The Gasholes! :D

Ernie

DKing 04-07-2004 02:11 PM

Another Ebay scam to be aware of:

I was bidding on a Jag IRS and lost the final bid. After the auction closed, I received an email from an other Ebay member offering to sell me a Jag IRS that he had. Now, the guy very well may have had a Jag IRS for sale, but I'm a little suspicious by nature (which is one of the reasons Dirty Ernie has a red ERA 427 in his garage, and I don't...). He seemed a little too sympathetic to my being outbid. And, what the heck is he doing looking at a Jag IRS when he has one already, not to mention why he was so interested in selling his to me in particular when there's a sea of audience at Ebay should he list it properly?

Consider the repercussions of replying to the email from the seller of this Jag IRS: First, he has my Ebay id and would obtain my email address, so that's a good start on swipping my Ebay i.d. for fraudulent activity. Second, say I send this guy some money, or even worse, use my credit card to make the purchase. Bye bye bank account.

Jeeeeezzzz.

So, I turned the guy in to Ebay. If he actually had a Jag IRS to sell, he should just list it properly instead of trying to circumvent Ebay.

So, in case you guys haven't seen that one, head's up. You'll see it soon enough.

Dangerous Doug

BTW: Interesting thread above. Always wondered what would happen if I actually engaged one of those "sellers" just for fun and games. "Mr. Camaro?" Oh, come ON!
