Point of clarification:

The Jag diff is a XJ-6 or the stronger V-12 unit?

ENTDOC 05-23-2004 11:47 AM

I do not know Earnie.Any way to tell? chuck

Excaliber 05-23-2004 12:29 PM

Not an expert in that area but I think the difference is the V-12 has a larger ring gear.

Kind of like comparing an 8.8" to a 9" Ford unit.

Snakebit 05-23-2004 01:47 PM

What condition is the expansion tank in? I'll take the Fram fuel filter and the tank for $90. Let me know the shipping cost to NJ 08080. Thanks.

ENTDOC 05-23-2004 05:38 PM

Expansion tank is new and pristine. chuck

Hi Excaliber,

Re: the Jag rears, as far as I'm aware the diffs are all Dana 44s (8-3/4") with slightly larger diameter ring gear bolts.

The early E-Types did have less stout stub axle bearings, but the later bearings can be used.

Otherwise they're pretty much the same all the way up to the nineties' version of the XJS.

The big differences seem to be in the gear ratios and whether or not they are limited slip ("Powerlok"). By the way there are apparently two different Powerloks - one for the higher numerical ratios and one for the lower, e.g. 2.88 and nearby. I forget exactly where the break is - 3.08???

The other big difference is in the widths of the axles & wishbones. The E-Type is the narrowest, the 3.8s/420 are next narrowest and the XJ6/12/S are the widest. The first two may (depending on the kit!) be used as-is, the others almost always require narrowing.

Hope this illuminates more than it obfuscates

Regards,

Tom

Chuck,

If the expansion tank is still available, I would definitely be interested in purchasing from you. I'll pay $100.00 plus shipping.

Thanks,

Chris

powermaster unit

Entdoc,
I am intrested in the powermaster unit. I have purchased them as a unit with motor/pump and the master cyl. with an accumulator or round vessel about 5 inches in diameter. The unit also had 2 small hoses attached between units. Are we talking the same unit or are you selling just the master cylinder?
Thanks Jeff C.

ENTDOC 05-24-2004 06:27 AM

Jeff,it is the whole unit, ready to drop in. chuck
